But, according to Andrew Jackson, I mean, Gammons, Boston has been underrated and will go above and beyond all expectations.
That is hilarious! He does look like Andrew Jackson. But Gammons isn't a raging racist like the former president.

This is why it's so easy to make fun of scouts. They sometimes can't seem to see the forest for the trees. They're vital and necessary, but some seem like they worry about the little things while ignoring the big things.

When I saw Moneyball, by far the biggest laugh in the whole movie was when the scout said "His girlfriend is ugly," and went on to say it meant he lacked confidence. Worrying about all that other stuff is why Doug was able to get Morgan for a song. As soon as someone says anything other than how good they hit, pitch, or field, tell them we'd rather win and shut up.

Nothing beats Steve Berthiaume picking the Astros to win the Central.

I looked back at the 40+ ESPN predictions from the spring and only 1 picked the Brewers, Tigers, Cardinals or Rangers to make it to the World Series (Jonah Keri from fangraphs: Red Sox over Brewers)

Can we all raise a toast to Peter Gammons and his Boston Red Sox now?!!!!

Ahhhhhhhhh!!!!

I remember reading an article somewhere before the season that said Boston would challenge not just for the World Series, but also being one of the best teams ever. Then they go out and have an epic collapse that just might be the worst ever. Man did i take great pleasure in watching them absolutely fall apart, even with a 170 million dollar payroll. Hilarious.

As for the Brewers, some obviously were way off, but i also do remember quite a few in the national media expecting us to be good. As much as advances in statistical data have made it easier to try and evaluate players and teams, baseball is still a fairly unpredictable game. Nobody at all thought Arizona would come close to winning 90 plus games. Who could have predicted in August that Boston would blow a 9.5 game lead in only a few weeks? The Giants run last year?

That's the beauty of sports, especially baseball and football where usually there are some very surprisingly good teams each year and then a team or two expected to be really good falls apart as Boston did this year. Doug put together a really good overall pitching staff and it paid off, four games away from a World Series berth.

They showed the "odds" on MLb and it was Yankess, Phillies, Boston as the top three. After that it was teams still in the playoffs Tigers Rangers, Cards and I believe the Brewers were last at 20 to 1 in the preseason.

Actually, as of January 16, 2011 the Brewers were at 40:1 odds to win the WS. I know because I have a $50 bet slip from a Vegas casino to prove it, lol.
