Gallardo starting opening day. Then Marcum and Wolf. Narveson gets the home opener.

Even with Greinke, I thought Gallardo might get the opener (the guy who's been here rather than one of the two new guys).

Not thrilled about Narveson getting the home opener, but it's good for him. It was originally lined up for Marcum, but it's necessary to move him up to the Reds series with Greinke out. Between Narveson and Wolf it really doesn't make a difference, so it doesn't really matter I guess.

There's gonna have to be some weird shuffling with the spring rotation, and it's starting today with Narveson pitching on 3 days rest. The whole rotation needs to be realigned somehow.

actually, Narveson is a solid choice because the Braves lineup is stacked with lefties.....Braves will probably go with 4-lefties (McCann, Heyward, Freddie Freeman & McLouth) plus Chipper will hit from his weaker right side

Ok, but it's only one game. Gallardo, Marcum, and probably Rogers have the other 3 games in that series. Narveson could've pitched any of the 4 games.

Really hope Rogers progresses and get get his arm built up and can get that #5 spot.

The idea of delaying a start so a better pitcher can pitch the home opener is just goofy. It's one of 162, or one of 81.

Agreed. It would have been one thing to delay Marcum for the home opener, (Gallardo, Greinke, Wolf, Marcum, Narv) because it splits up the lefties. But now, with Greinke injured, it doesn't make sense. You don't want Rogers or Rivas starting the home opener. That would be pretty stressful for a rookie.

 

Sure, its an honor, but its not that big of a deal to start Narv for the first home game.
