2011 Breakout MiLB Brewer?

Osmel Perez. Book it.
Second it!!! DSL is prob my favorite team to follow in the system. I can't wait to see what guys are promoted to the states. Ruben Sanchez, Andres Martinez, Jose Pena, Hitaniel Arias, Jose Garcia, Ronny Pullo, Raul Mondesi Jr. Carlos Pena, Yorki Hernandez, Jeffrey Saba, Carlos Soda, Eliezer Montano, and Manny Ruiz are all guys I am really looking forward to seeing if they devolop into legit prospects.

Best part about Perez is he is only 17 (18 mid season) and have read he is hitting 94mph. Plus a 6'3 200lbs frame also is pretty nice

Where are you getting this stuff? I can't find a single thing on Perez. Also, any idea if Perez is going to move up to rookie ball or anything? It would be nice to see the Brewers aggressive with their pitchers.

And no, roster decisions for those guys are entirely a mystery until summer.

Thanks. Good to see we are restarting our LA development. Let's hope he's the first of many. Joel Pierce said he expects to be placed at Low A Wisconsin, so if Melvin and Co. are going to be aggressive with him, I'd like to see the Crew do the same with many of their young pitchers (and Perez is at the top of the list).

I wouldn't necessarily take him as an authority on that matter. I would be surprised if the Brewers put Pierce anywhere other than the Arizona League.

I have a feeling Hall and Pierce both will be in extended ST with Walla and Roberts and open season is the core of the Helena team. I guess it all depends on how they are pitching ( and hitting) this spring. Tough to say though, Gallardo and Rogers only pitched 6-9 games of rookie ball and then guys like Odorizzi were forced to pitch two full years. With hitters, you show you belong like Gennett, you can make the leap.

Ross would be a good pick. Even without Covey that 2010 pitching is loaded with talent. Nelson, Thornburg, Miller, and Ross all displayed a lot last year. Joel Pierce is young but has great frame and arm. The one guy no one talks about who has maybe the most electric arm is Thomas Keeling. There is a reason for that, he pitch beyond terrible but he learns to throw strikes and do it consistantly, watch out. 24 bb in like 7ip I believe to go with 18 ot so ERs, he has a lot to prove.

Saw that Rob Wooten is back so I expect him to rebreakout and be our top RP prospect.

Keeling's BB/9 of 28.2 makes Frederickson's 10.2 look like Fiers' 2.3.

Disclaimer: The following is not intended to be dumping as much on Gennett as it will probably seem...

I didn't want to start a thread that would be so negative, but I really am looking for some convincing on Scooter Gennett. I *want* to believe, I really do. He's just so small, and limited to 2B on defense. Can the believers explain why not to have doubts about his long-term projectability? I know he hit pretty well at low-A last season, and I know BC & the FSL are in a tough hitters environment. But he's listed at 5'9 & 164 lbs., and looks every bit of that in person. Does a player that small have a realistic chance to fill out enough to hit for more than just singles power at the big-league level?

Before you go all Dustin Pedroia on me, I think it's wise to note how much of an exception Pedroia is. On top of that, in his age-21 season (which Gennett is in this year), Pedroia mashed at AA & held his own -- comparable slash line to Scooter's in BC so far -- at AAA. Pedroia's listed at 5'9" & 180 lbs., I suppose that's not an unrealistic top-end playing weight for Scooter.

Alright, so now that I've tainted the discussion by comparing these two very directly, I'd really like to hear other reasons to believe in Gennett -- swing, defense, etc. I'm just concerned that Gennett might only wind up developing into a backup caliber 2B-only player.
