The Ultimate Tailgate: Best things seen, done, ingested

Brewer Fever
We don't do anything too exciting, but I do make the beer bath for all the brats to simmer in - beer, butter, kraut (and garlic if i remember)....when the brats are just about done, dump them in there (on the grill) for ten mintues or so. Delicious.

I usually do the beer bath as well. I always let the brats/italians/etc soak up in the bath before throwing em on. get the sausages all close to done, and then throw em back in the bath for another few minutes. Mine varies from yours by using green peppers, onions, garlic, and a solid shot of hot sauce. and ALWAYS throw the buns on the grill until toasted. when I make sausages this way I don't need any other condiments, they're perfect as they are.

I do like this breakfast idea, we might put that in the mix this year.

^Just out of curiosity, how does one acquire a lion steak?

My buddy was at a butcher shop in the twin cities, there was a sign that read "for the Curious Carnivore". He picked them up there, they are bred on a farm in Illinois(only way meat can be sold in the US).

This place is in Homer Glen, IL. I might have to drive down there one of these weekends and get one of everything. Is black bear good?

It's not bad, the key with any wild meat, is not to overcook it. Once you do that, it's tough and just plain bad. Of the things listed on that site, i'd definitely go with wild boar(it's so much better than regular pork, there is no comparison), buffalo, gator, the Lion(obviously) and Elk(i get my own venison, so that's why i leave that off, if you don't, i'd get some of that too)

How much does it cost to rent a port-a-potty? Any ideas? And where would i get it from?

As far as game goes, black bear is pretty good, not too gamey. But Bernie is right, absolutely don't want to overcook it.

A crowd pleaser for us is what we call "gourmet smores"

Spray the outside of a croissant with PAM butter flavor, put on grill with marshmallow fluff, and chocolate, like a sandwich (wrap whole thing in tinfoil)

They are ridiculously good.

Provide your own bathroom and you've won opening day. That's what we do.

My friend is renting a U-Haul this year and just got done constructing this-

I'm looking for food suggestions,

For my bachelor party last year, my buddies got some exotic meat(i'm a hunter, and they know i don't shy away from odd foods). We had Lion steaks, Black bear, and beaver burgers for the exotic selection(all legal, btw). I wouldn't recommend the beaver, but if you can get your hands on a lion steak, i'm sure it will get you in the running for MVP, based off of coolness alone(not to mention, it was actually really good).

Check this place out if you haven't- http://www.venisonamerica.com/

They're in Hudson WI.

I have some python fillets & rattlesnake in the freezer that I got there. I've also had kangaroo meat, antelope patties & llama patties.

It still surprises me that more port-a-potty's are not provided in the parking lots. The general lot off of Bluemound has what, about 10 scattered about the lot? Would it really be that hard to bring in a bank of 20 or so? Maybe they enjoy watching people climb the hill...

"His whole life is a fantasy camp. People should plunk down $2000 to live like him for a week. Sleep, do nothing, fall ass-backwards into money, mooch food off your neighbors and have sex without dating... THAT'S a fantasy camp."

The lot off Bluemound, where we always park, has no more than 12 port-a-potty.s It's completely absurd. Especially for a game like Opening Day, when the lot is completely full. They leave you with all really poor choices:

1 - wait in a line at least 20 deep

2 - walk all the way over to Helfair field and back

3 - climb the hill or go in the parking lot

They really need to address it, it's absurd to think that 12 bathrooms are enough for the ten thousand or so fans that are parked out there.

Who has info on renting a port-a-potty?

Not sure about the Milwaukee area, but I have rented porta pottys in Eau Claire a couple times for $75-$100

Extremely reasonable. Not to mention, you can charge others outside your group like, $2 to use it, and probably recoup all your expenses.
