The halftime show didn't start to become a big deal until the early 90's. I believe NKOTB was the first pop band to perform and then once Michael Jackson did it there was no turning back. Since there are no super groups around anymore (let's face it, as cool as The Foo is they ain't no Who or Tom Petty in terms of hits) it will probably be a combination of people going forward. They haven't had a country act in a while...I could see them going that route in the next year or two.

Anyone else think the odds are good when it comes to Mellencamp getting chosen for next years show? Even if he was asked I wouldn't know if he'd accept because he still has a bit of that rebel persona. But he is getting divorced. He might need every penny he can get.
