Pujols Demanding 10/$300 from Cardinals

Go sign him Doug.

Seriously...if the Brewers were willing to give Prince 20 million....30 million for Pujols?

Though that righteous....."person" to avoid breaking any rules...wouldn't likely come to Milwaukee even if we offered him 300.

Even though there really isn't a place for him, and they shouldn't take on another gazillion dollar contract, I would love for the Yankees to get Pujols just to hear all the moaning about the league.
I really think this is going to happen, I don't know why- let's say a premonition on my part. In about 9 months or so, everyone can call me Nostradamus.

This is getting quite interesting. I have read that the Cards and Pujols are very far apart in negotiations with the Cards only offering 7 years instead of the 10 he has asked for. If he hits free agency you have to think someone else will give him what he wants.

I hope the Yanks sign him too. 1: He will be out of the NL Central. 2: He will be out of the NL. 3: 2 first basemen for $480m! Now that's some mighty fine parity.

Someone will give him 10 years, but not $300 million.

But it will be close to $300 million. Probably something like 10 years and $280 million or somewhere around that figure. What I have read is that the Cardinals are not willing to go past 6 or 7 years with Pujols and if Pujols really wants what Rodriguez got he is going to be signing with another team. I really wouldn't be surprised to see the Cubs pick up Pujols for something like 10 years at $275 or $280 million.

Completely unofficial but someone whose uncle who is a sports writer for the Post said that they signed Albert but out of respect to Musial getting his award on Monday they will not announce it until Tuesday or Wednesday. I think this is probably BS just because the Post has the worst sports page of any local paper of any of the places I've lived but I guess it was announced at a charity event last night. I've heard this nowhere else though and I think it would be all over the place.

apirk, I really doubt that's true. Like you said, if he had signed, it would be all over the place at this point. I really doubt "respect for Stan Musial" would preclude writers from reporting on this once it got out.

This is the latest that ESPN has on the situation:

Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols received and rejected a contract proposal from St. Louis two weeks ago and there has been no progress in the talks since then, a source told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.

I honestly believe the Brewers best option is for him to sign a $30MM/year deal with StL. That deal would severely limit them in future years to sign other free agents and almost ensures Wainwright signs elesewhere. I think a Pujols deal relegates them to signing the Lance Berkmans of the world and praying the Rasmuses and Freeses can provide cheap production.

Great point. The Cards were great in '04 & '05, but since 2006 they've averaged just under 85 wins a season. That's been good enough for them to make one World Series and one NLDS, but this is more a function of playing in a weak division than being anything other than a slightly above average team.

What the Cardinals really need is a reinvention. If they keep Albert they will always be this 85 win team hoping for a little luck or a worse season from every other weak team in the league. A smart Theo-type GM would let him walk and set about re-tooling the team. It's a huge risk because Albert will almost certainly be great until he's 35 at least, but winning cures everything.

I know that there were other posts in this thread today (including one from me). What happened to them??

Anyways...looks like Pujols will be a FA after this year.

Pujols/Cardinal talks end.

Edit. Nevermind. I was thinking of the thread in the MLB forum.
