sporting event snacks

Bikeage77

This is obviously for Sunday, but it can be based on Brewers games too, so no need to put this in Lambeau Leap.

If you go to a friends house for a sporting event potluck, what do you tend to bring? We've been going to different homes since week 14 and there's been a ton of stuff. I'm pretty competent in the kitchen so I'm just trying to get some new ideas. Before the Philly game we had a chili cookoff / cribbage tournament with about 24 people. Total blast.

I'm thinking of doing a stew this week.

It depends on the crowd and what everyone else is bringing, but I usually stick with a few standard potluck dishes:

1.) Bacon wrapped smokies.

2.) Quick and easy nacho dip.

3.) Seven layer taco dip.

4.) Baked potato soup.

5.) Slow cooker cheesy potatoes.

Four of the five utilize a crock pot, let me know if you want a recipe.

I do a simple artichoke dip for all the games. Easy and delicious!

Cup of Mayo (I use light)
Cup of Mozzarella
Cup of Parmasean
Cup of finely chopped artichokes
Couple sprinkles of garlic powder or some garlic seasoning

Mix all together in a bowl, then spread into a shallow baking dish. Top with smoked paprika. Bake at 350 until brown and bubbling. Serve with triscuits. Like many, the recipe improves with the quality of ingredients. The better parm you use, typically the better result. I have also started using the Melting Pot's garlic and wine seasoning instead of garlic powder, with fantastic results!

Gehl's Staduim Nacho Cheese Party Pack and a bag of tortilla chips. It's the same cheese they serve at Miller Park, Speedway, Taco Bell, and Arby's among other places. It comes in a 16(?)oz bag and just needs to be heated up in the microwave or on the stove. It's about $3. I've seen it at the Oak Creek Woodman's and think they might also have them Sendik's.

Disclaimer: I currently draw a paycheck from Gehl's, but everything in this post is true.

Do you know where I can get Gehl's nacho cheese in Madison? I couldn't find it at Woodmans.

During the summer I make bacon-wrapped chorizo-stuffed jalapenos on the grill. I actually submitted the recipe for the Brewers Concession Item contest. It's probably too complicated (since all peppers have to have seeds and membranes removed) to win but they taste great.

I just saw it at Piggly Wiggly in South Milwaukee. I work in IT, so I don't really know what happens to it after it's put onto trailers. You can also try Target. I have not seen it on the shelf, it is usually near the end of the aisle on its own rack.

Went to a buddies for NFCCG and had wonton shells with pepperjack cheese and chopped chives deeped fried, they were excellent. We didn't, but you could dip them in sour cream if you wanted.

It was quite the spread with taco and artichoke dips, crab cakes, and grilled shrimp and steak, bunch of other stuff too. My buddy does catering at a golf course so everything was excellent.

I use fresh (Mexican) chorizo as opposed to the cooked Spanish stuff. Using cooked chorizo would make the peppers hard to stuff. I combine the fresh chorizo with shredded cheese (usually cheddar but could be any kind) with a 2:1 sausage to cheese ratio. You could add more or less of either if you wanted. Look for medium to large peppers which also makes stuffing easier. I cut a small slit lengthwise from just below the stem to the bottom and remove all the seeds and membrane (keep the stems attached for easy handling). The peppers should look like canoes. Stuff the peppers with the chorizo/cheese mixture. I usually a half strip of bacon to wrap pepper, holding in place with toothpicks. For larger peppers, a whole strip of bacon could be used. Then I grill for 30-40 minutes until the bacon is cooked, at which point the chorizo should be cooked too. This is more of a summer grilling thing but they could also be made in the oven. I made them a couple of times in the oven and they turn out decent but the best results come from the grill.

This is basically the recipe I use. I got it out of a cookbook five or so years ago. But like I mentioned, you could use any cheese you want. I've switched it up and used cream cheese to add a jalapeno popper flair and that works well too.

thank you sir. I assumed it was similar to chiles rellanos except not fried in batter. this very well could be my appetizer for the super bowl.

I'm going to make these for the party I'm going to as well. If you end up making them, I'd be interested in hearing how they turned out and how everyone enjoyed them.

I can confirm that we carry it at Woodman's in Menomonee Falls. It's on a cardboard display next to the cheap (Pajeda's) tortilla chips.
