Official Wii fanboy thread

Brian the Automator

Don't really care either way, and if someone has the resources and wants one bad enough they'll be able to get it, or more likely have one already. Could argue it's a better value to pay an extra $150 or so than to wait in line, for me that wasn't the case.

Best Buy also brought it on themselves with their "minimum of 15" bull. People drove by my line after all 6 were spoken for, and they were able to save themselves some frustration.

The blue polo shirts had something to say about people scalping new merchandise directly outside their front door, most likely without any kind of vendor license, permit, warranty, and they had that right to drive them away. That's what eBay and Buy It Now are for.

I wasn't bashing them very hard to begin with, definitely not enough for anyone to have to justify swooping in for their defense. But I am glad we all know what you think.

(Edit: Noticed just about everyone's found a way to connect to the internet)

Al probably thinks hookers should be able to set up trailers next to the Wii lines, and why not? It's fair trade between a willing buyer and a willing seller at an agreed price, I don't see the need for any restrictions just because one party might benefit more than the other.

They could sell drugs, beer, weapons and smokes too. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Things were pretty slow between 2 and about 4, and they could've made a killing.

Why is it greedier to want the market value of the system rather than the system?

Well -- From a pure humanistic approach --

If there is 20 units at Target, there are probably 30 moms/dads trying to get this as a gift for their kid in a line for a unit. If I camp out in line and buy a unit, just so I can sell it in the parking lot to mom/dad #s 19-30, I think that is very questionably unethical, and certainly greedy. Because at the end of the day, there is probably some parent that will pay more in the parking lot to make their kid happy. While they could certainly not pay, it is not an example of free-market, rather artificially created markets generated to take an advantage of someone that is in a compromised position.

IMO -- I have no interest in a WII -- so I am happy to let the moms/dads and gamer geeks battle it out, rather than inserting myself in the mix, just so I can make 50$.

It seems very greedy to me.

I don't have any idea about Al's views on hooker-trailers... however, I am a big supporter of hooker-trailers...

However, the problem with this statement -- is that it doesn't fit the 3 step profitiability test.

Step 1. -- Set up Hooker Trailers

Step 2. -- ?????

Step 3. -- Profit.

I don't know what Step 2 is, but I am relatively assured that in order for hooker-trailers to be profitable, they can't be set up where the "gamer geek/normal human male" ratio is greater than probably .05 or so. --

In this scenario -- the ratio is obscenely high probably 30 to 1 or so. -- It just would fail. It would be like setting up an Olive Garden in Sturgis.

I suspect Al would not support the hooker-trailer at this point.

That's an outstanding point, Fatter than Joey. Beside overestimating the quivering of the unfulfilled teenage demographic, I also failed to consider other elementary factors like 1) peer social behavior and the stigmas that may be associated with the trailer, 2) overhead costs including the increased cost of energy, 3) the possibility of losing your place in line.

After further review, I have to agree that the owner-operators would have a better chance at getting radical liberals to join them for a Columbus Day celebration at Walmart. Or, in more practical terms, at lining up to get their own little white box of game future to resell.

(To keep from getting too far off topic, I'm sorry to see the Wii Seeker site shows all shipments anywhere are "unkown." Best of luck to everyone in the search, and if it helps at all remember there's plenty of time to find yours before Mario Galaxy, Godfather, and the baseball games hit.)

For what it's worth, Walmart in Delafield had 5 Wii's on the shelf (well 4 now) as of a few hours ago. I was out shopping all day and that is the only place that had them.

Thought I'd pass that on to those of you still looking. Hope someone here is close enough to get one before they are gone!

Good luck!

If by online you mean things you can play in your web browser, you can only use the remote.

Virtual console games, the ones you can pay to download, will use both classic and gamecube controllers. When you go to download the game, there's an icon that indicates which controllers are compatible, and GC controllers are compatible with pretty much everything.

  • 3 weeks later...
Me too! The wife has finally given me permission to get one, and I can't find one anywhere. Does anyone have any hints? What I've been told is to stop by the stores (Target, Shopko, etc) around 1pm because that's when FedEx arrives.

When I found mine a few weeks ago I looked at ps3seeker.com/wii

The best thing it helped with was it seemed pretty accurate with the dates when they'd be available in the stores. Dec 17th for example, a lot of stores in my area made some available to go along with their Sunday newspaper ads that day.

I think a Sunday morning would still be the best shot for that reason, and it looks like the wiiseeker site says some are scheduled for next Sunday. Good luck, I think you'll have a lot of fun with it.

Has anyone played much of Elebits, Excite Truck, or Rayman yet, or planning to get Warioware right away this week? I want to wait a while before buying more games but it'll be a while before anything gets to $30 or below I guess.

I said I wasn't going to play Mario 64 again after spending so much time with it the first time around, but I got it and have been hitting it up since Trauma Center got all weird with tiny disease dragons and birds in internal organs. That was kind of a let-down after cleaning up broken glass wounds, and replacing a heart valve. Also all the written dialogue was annoying until I realized the ( - ) button would skip it. I really liked the controls and most of the ideas, though, and hope they make another one that sticks more to real doctor work somehow. I don't think Cooking Mama will measure up.

I rented Elebits. I'd say it's definately worth a rental. It's a very cool use of the Wiimote, but I think that I would get sick of it if I owned it.

To the contrary, m'friend. Circuit City this week has Rayman or Red Steel for $29.99 each - Best Buy or someone else will do price match. I've played Rayman and it's quite good, but probably something best enjoyed with a group that may get tiresome if you play alone - it's just a huge collection of 1-3 minute mini-games.

Also, Rampage is priced at $29.99 regularly, but there's a reason for that, as it reportedly is a giant piece of crap.

Yeah, Excite Truck sounds like one to wait on, but I hope a lot more games continue with the custom soundtrack. I thought about getting Rayman a couple weeks ago but got Trauma Center instead, and now the new Warioware looks like the games might be better anyway.

Brian, your description makes sense because it sounded fun from what I heard but then I was wondering what's left after you get tired of throwing furniture and houses around. Red Steel sounds fun too but I hear there are a lot of things in the game and controls to fix if they make a sequel.

Ha yeah Rampage, I bought three of those just in case the first one gets scratched or something while I need a fix, because that way I'll still have a backup copy left even then.

My lady just found a $20 Gamespot card and that might bring Smooth Moves into my price range tomorrow, but I want to look at some more reviews and video first.

Edit: thanks for the heads up by the way, mothership, Rayman might be worth a look too.

Did the new Zelda burn everyone out or maybe there's not as much time to play after the holidays? If nobody minds, I'll keep bumping this, either until I can go a day without playing or everyone gets sick of waving their arms and sells theirs toward PS3s. I've never played more than 10 minutes of any Zelda game but the new Wario Ware's my new favorite game and I haven't even played with anyone else yet.

If I can unlock almost everything in a few hours you know it's not deep, but there's still enough variety to keep it heavy in the rotation indefinitely. Don't know if anything on Wii Play will beat the 301 dart game on here. I could go on if anyone's curious. I hadn't played the series before and had a hard time getting an idea from the reviews.
