I checked out the local 24 hour Walmart on my way home from work to see if I could get an idea of their inventory and how early I would need to arrive to grab a console...

The clerk I talked to was surprisingly candid. They only had 20 in stock. Despite being open 24x7, campers would still have to wait outside. One lonely camper was already sitting in a chair playing his DS.

Things seem a bit more grim than I had hoped.

Got one!

I went to the Target in New Berlin around 1:30 this morning and was number 48 of the 57 they had in stock.

The Wiimote really is slick.

It would be nice to see the Internet, news, and weather channel features, but supposedly those will come later.

Wii Sports is really nothing more than a tech demo, but I did win my first baseball game. Maybe I should swing one handed in softball too. I have not played Zelda yet.

If you guys have any hands-on questions about the system, I check this thread as much as I can and try to answer them.

i'll put my money on the 30+ guys who have been waiting in line for a couple days and are getting real anxious..I wouldn't want to make those guys mad.

Yeah, it takes meth to stay up that long, and meth gives you +8 strength, +5 agility, +9 rage, and -10 charisma.

I went to Best Buy today because they had season 1 of Robot Chicken and ATHF v4 for $14.99, so I asked them about the Wii. They said all of them were sold out immediately and that they "should have more before Christmas". Ugg. Still, I'm assuming that's just the company line so that people won't get mad when they don't have any in a week or two.

woo-hoo, got one. I've been asleep all day but I just woke up to play Wii. It is pretty freaking cool. (They were out of nunchuks though, so I only have one of those). All I've played so far is Wiisports because I want to check the reviews of the other games that I bought first. Speaking of which, does anyone know where I could find some reviews of Monkey Ball, Zelda, Marvel Alliance and Tony Hawk? I checked GameFaqs but they don't seem to have updated recently.

I ususally check gamespot dot com, and sometimes gameinformer dot com as well. However gameinformer is a magazine so the reviews aren't available right away since they want you to buy their magazine for the latest games.

The poster previously known as Robin19, now @RFCoder

EA Sports...It's in the game...until we arbitrarily decide to shut off the server.

I went to the local Wal-Mart at around 11:30 pm just to see and there was a good size line. I didn't end up getting one, but oh well. There were people that waited in line 17 hours to get one and I'm just not that anxious to get one. I do feel bad for the guy that was waiting in line since 4:00 PM and was the 21st person for the 20 wiis.

I have two friends that got one (one pre-ordered it the other bought a sales ticket off someone standing in line for $5).

So I got to play Super Monkey Ball last night. We only played the mini games (which the game has a LOT of) and while some of them were terrible, some were hard to control, and some were down right awesome. I think I injured my elbow doing the hammer throw. I also watched Wii sports bowling and Tennis. Both of which looked fun, if very basic.

Sadly, it was probably the best workout I'd gotten in months.

I'm definately going to get the Wii but I am going to wait until January or February when their isn't a shortage. The system just seems more inovative and fun than anything else out there. I have to give Nintendo a lot of credit for taking risks. They took a risk with the DS and it paid off. Now they are taking a risk with the Wii and I think the system will do well. There is definately a ton of buzz and excitement about the Wii. Nintendo hasn't had this much buzz and excitement about one of their systems since the Super Nintendo.

i watched some of the videos on wii's website and am very excited for my system to come tomorrow. Can anyone that has it suggest a game. I am thinking excite truck would be a good first game. I also give Nintendo credit for taking a risk and doing something completely different than anyone else has ever done.

Having NOT stood in line for 16 hours (for which I can thank my stepson!), my initial reaction to WiiSports was that I was disappointed with the graphical features but the playability of the tennis and bowling games is tremendous.

The bowling in particular is very intuitive - if you've ever bowled before, you can simulate a pretty good hook ball in no time at all. Beating your high game, as usual, is where the addiction kicks in!

And the tennis might just be the best workout I've had all week!

When they get a quality baseball title with player's likenesses and all, I predict whole months of not getting any sleep. At the moment the basic graphics (players don't even have legs!) is a little off-putting, but apparently this is just to show you what the system can do.

I think the official Nintendo position was "it's free so shut your yap"!
