Official Wii fanboy thread

You should get the 360 and play Oblivion if you liked Fable.

Since she has a computer (obviously), she should buy Oblivion for that system. (just make sure it can support it) And might I suggest SW:KotOR (number 1 was slightly better than 2) for either computer or XBox. That game was the sole reason we got an XBox. Of course being a SW fanboy made it all the sweeter game.

Until they anounce a Dragon Warrior/Quest on PS3, it will be Wii and 360 for me. Dragon Warrior with the year subsription to Nintendo Power was the first game I ever played. It hooked me on RPGs, and FF just doesn't seem as good.

At first I thought the whole Revolution thing was dumb, but the more I hear about it the more I like it. I always wait until the first price drop to get consoles, though. Can't wait to play Zelda and Mario.

Everyone I know who has demo'd a PS3 has told me to buy stock in Sony.

Apparently, thats how good it is.

All of them had 360's already as well.

Sony has admitted it will take a loss of over $1 billion during the next year. I usually buy stock in company's that are set to make money.

Admittedly Sony has an edge on hardware performance, and the porn industry has said they will make only Blu-Ray DVDs, which will also be a big boost to Sony. Aside from that Playstation 3 is just too expensive and the games that are launching with it are not the system sellers like Zelda. It's going to take a while to get quality games out for Playstation like Metal Gear and GTA.

Wii's price and motion censored controllers will sell the system. Zelda itself will sell with at least 75% of launch systems. Plus Wii has a lot more systems for sale on launch than Sony has and Microsoft had. The question is will Zelda and the other Wii launch titles keep you busy this holiday season?

With the Xbox 360 you get a fairly inexpensive system with a larger library of games and Live capabilities. Xbox 360 is definitely the way to go if you like FPS with Gears of War, Ghost Recon and FEAR. If that's not your style, there's Oblivion, Kameo, Dead Rising and many sports games. I don't know which console will end up having the best games or selling the most systems 4 years from now, but I think the Xbox 360 is the best if you're looking for a good gaming system this holiday season. Plus you don't have to camp out for it.

I've got KotOR, but I thought it was really clunky....

That's because KotOR is actually a turn-based RPG disguised as an action RPG. I turned on the option to have the game pause after every round and it played even more like a turn-based. But this is from someone who's only liked one action RPG (Oblivion).

Seriously, how many friends could you possibly have that have both demo'd a system that isn't even out yet in US AND own a 360? And Sony has a whole has been doing terrible financially, so I'm not sure if I'd be jumping on that "buy stock" bandwagon just yet.

To get back on topic, reviews for wii sports and the new Zelda are starting to trickle in. Here's a good place to keep track of them:

Wii Sports - WII

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Zelda = great, wii sports = meh?

Ign loved wii sports bowling, tennis, and baseball, was annoyed by golf, and hated boxing...still sounds great to me...a good throw in and a nice warm up for the inevitable mario sports titles that will be infinitly better than wii sports..

they've also got a review up for trauma center and they seem to like it

and unless you really like shooting things and playing sports games, the 360 doesn't have much to offer..

i've seen all the arguments, but the games matter the most: of the 100+ titles, i am only interested in playing PGR3 and Viva Pinata...and that's just not enough for me to buy the system...there's already 4-5 wii games i want to get

That was a HUGE problem with the original Xbox but not even close to true about the 360. Xbox Arcade has allowed MS to really diversify the 360 lineup (and most are $5-$10). Some of the most popular right now:

? Contra

? UNO (camera and voice support)

? Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3

? Texas Hold 'em

? Geometry Wars Evolved

? Hexic HD

? LUMINES LIVE!

? DOOM

? Street Fighter II' Hyper Fighting

? Bankshot Billiards 2

? Marble Blast Ultra

? Bejeweled 2

You can also download a demo of every Xbox Arcade game for free.

My concern with the motion controls of the wii is the precision of the whole thing. It doesn't sound like it can pick up smaller movements very accurately and I'm worried that it acts more like a button push than anything else. I hope those concerns prove to be unfounded, since the wii could really revolutionize video game interfacing.

all the games you mention on xbox live sound alright, but they aren't worth purchasing a 3-400 dollar system for...especially since many are available on other systems or the internet...

i'm much more intrigued by the back catalogue on the virtual console on the wii

Provided the prices are reasonable (under $10) I can't disagree. My point wasn't that the 360 was "better" than the wii, just that there is way more than just "sports games and FPS" on the 360. If you have no interest in the multimedia capabilties of the 360 and could care less about graphics, the wii is a no brainer.

...especially since many are available on other systems or the internet...

Considering EVERY wii "back catalogue" game is available on another system by definition (not to mention most are available online for free), I find that comment a bit confusing http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

oh hah...

i've actually spent the past two months hawking all my snes, genesis and psone title in anticipation of their sudden worthlessness when nintendo and sony start letting people download practically anything for $5

as for the technical gizmodgery, i'll take the ps3...even if the blu-ray doesn't win out in the end, the movies i do buy will look pretty great on my (and your)newpanasonic plasma screens

The price points for those games seem too exspensive for my liking.

What I've heard is $5 (oh, I'm sorry, 500 wii points) for NES, 600 wii points for TG16 800 wii points for SNES, 1000 wii points for N64...for me, I'd need the prices to be about half that before I'd start getting interested in it.

Also there is like only 3 or less titles available per system at launch...that seems like a REALLY slow ramp up.

I already have a playstation3 on reserve that I plan to sell on ebay. I want to get a wii, with the only problem is that no launch games excite me, except for maybe wii sports which is included. I might just hold off until baseball games comes out in march or april.

If it's everybody and their sister's idea to buy a PS3 and then sell it on eBay, then there won't as much profit as anticipated. I mean, I'm not a big video game guy, but seeing what happened with other consoles on eBay, I thought about doing the same thing just for the profit. How many more people will sell their PS3 this time than did the PS2? Since people saw it was a great idea, many more will do the same.

As a guy who really loathes ticket scalpers, poster flippers, and the like I really hope anyone that tries that gets screwed. No offense to

patrickgpe, but it pisses me off that people that actually want the system (who's already getting ripped off at launch by being forced in to those package deals) has to pay that much more because they were unlucky or not quite as much on the ball. I realize it's unavoidable, but that's only a little consolation. Though what I really hate is when people who work at places like Best Buy do that stuff.

The launch supply of the PS3 is a tiny fraction of the actual demand (I think it's 80,000 for North America). If every single launch PS3 were placed on Ebay, they'd still cost more than retail price.
