Anyone catch the E3 Nintendo event?

Looks like some pretty neat stuff coming out, I'm always really impressed with Nintendos out of the box controller ideas. I don't know how popular "Wii Fit" will be, but the creative ideas behind it seems neat.

Nintendo's e3 conference, IMO, was a bit of a letdown. They didn't announce anything I wasn't already expecting....and the new things they did announce (Golden Sun 3 and another Advance Wars game on the DS, a U.S. Release date for Fire Emblem on the Wii, Donkey Kong Bongo blast on Wii, etc.) at e3 weren't even mentioned at the conference.

I haven't touched the Wii in at least a month now; I will eventually go back through and finish Zelda, but only after I beat FF12 (upscaling on my PS3). 70% of my gaming time is taken up by the DS.

That being said, I will have Mario Galaxy, Fire Emblem: Goddess of Dawn, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl before the end of the year.

Strikers is a definite rental for me, before buying. It does sound like a winner though.

Summer weather and work has definitely put a damper on Wii playing for me. I'm saving it for a rainy weekend.

I'm buying a wii from a friend of mine who's letting me borrow it right now just to test drive it before the final purchase. Am I the only one who finds anything that involves pointing with the wiimote to be annoying or even frustrating? I have no problem with, say, anything in Wii Sports, but like on the main menu, controlling the selection cursor / hand is difficult to me. You have to move the wiimote ever so slightly when moving it (otherwise the cursor just takes off to the edge of the screen) and even when you hover on something, it's hard to stay hovered on it because if your hand moves a sliver, you're off the button. Then, I came across Wii Play, where there are a lot of pointing activities, and it gets even more frustrating. Pointing at balloons to shoot them seems almost impossible. Again, you have to move the remote with very slight degrees -- it really takes the fun out of it when you're standing in front of a 42" TV and you can only move your wiimote an inch up and down without going off the screen. And when I'm playing and I "look down the barrel" of the wiimote, it's not even pointing at the screen where the cursor is ... not even close.

Yes, I set the sensor bar positioning to match where I put the sensor bar. And I've tried both above TV and below TV. And I've tried standing different distances from the TV.

Any comments on this? I thought bowling, tennis, and baseball were all pretty fun and easy ... then I got to pointing activities in Wii Play and wanted to throw the system out the window.

Valpo, make sure your settings reflect the sensor bar position (top or bottom of screen). But yeah, the bigger the TV, the harder it seems to be really accurate.

In a related Wii discussion, the Metroid Prime 3 preview can now be downloaded from the shop channel. The video is grainy, which disappointed me, but I'm still really excited for this game to launch in 2 weeks.

Done. This was already in my post. I honestly found that there was no difference top or bottom ... heck, I didn't even notice a difference when I put the bar on top and set the settings to bottom or vice versa.

Seriously? That's pretty dumb. So all I can do is that hope lots of games don't utilize pointing? I get the feeling that I won't be that lucky when it comes to games like Mario Party and the Rayman party game. (Half the reason I'd buy the console.)

Don't quote me on that as fact, but I went from a standard 27 to a 42" plasma and it seems to move more now. My friend said the same thing happened to him, though it could be some extraneous factor. For the two of us, though, it wasn't that bad and we got used to it quickly, because most games don't require you to point really accurately, though I haven't played Rayman or any game with more pointing than Zelda or Paper Mario.

I played Strikers over the weekend and I think it's a real winner. It looks like it's going to be especially fun with multiplayer. The amount of pandemonium on the screen at any one time in some of fields is amazing. The only thing it really looks to be lacking is a voice connection for taunting people over the internet.

Looking into buying a Wii. Mostly to entertain my 4 year old who plays it at her daycare. Wondering what the best route to go is. Trying to find it new somewhere or finding a deal on craigslist or ebay. Electronic stuff always worries me when trying to find "deals". Also, what extras will be needed for 3 people to play.

Thanks.

I'd keep trying to find one in a store; I've actually seen them on shelves from time to time. It's largely a matter of being lucky.

As to what you need for 3-player gaming, it really depends on what the game is:

-For games like WarioWare, or most of Wii Sports, where the players alternate turns....you can get away with just the single controller that the Wii ships with.

-For competitive multiplayer, some of the larger titles (Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart Wii) are versatile enough to work with just the wiimote, the wiimote and nunchuck attachment, the wiimote with classic controller attachment, or a GameCube controller. (You'll need one of those options for each player, but which one is up to you.)

If there are games you know that you want for the Wii, you should be able to find out what control setup the game supports by reading a professional review (1UP, Gamespot, IGN, etc.).

....couldn't help but laugh while looking at my post from last year's e3. The 3 games I listed in the last post are the 3 Wii games I've bought in the past year. 3 more weeks until the next set of e3 press conferences!

If you have a Wii and have not picked up Super Smash Brothers for it, today is your lucky day. I took advantage of the Amazon deal of the day, and got a new copy for $25.99 shipped. You can't even find that used for that price. It has received great reviews, and is a great game for all ages.

I'm having alot of fun with MarioKart right now. My wife is asking ME to play--if you only knew what a switch THAT is http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif. The online play in particular is very good and fun. I always imagine some 4 year old in France is taking me to school. Very motivating.

I love the prediction portion of 'everybody votes' for some reason. Must be the sociologist in me--what kind of group of people own Wii's? Seems like optimistic people who believe they have control over their lives. Although recently a "best of times vs. worst of times" was split right down the center (probably still points to optimism at this point in time compared to the general public).

I also have been enjoying the laid back, open ended approach of "Endless Ocean". You basically boat/swim around and collect fish and other stuff. A great one before bed.

I had the same, more jumpy experience moving my Wii to a bigger TV. Only in the menu though.

I'm looking to buy a soccer game for my Wii. Anyone have any suggestions?

As I see it, there are 2 choices.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008

Fifa 2008

PES is newer and looks like it got a little better reviews. This will be my first soccer game, so I'm not sure what I'm looking for. Anyone own either of these?

You don't have an Adam Wainwright. Easily the best gentlemen in all of sports. You don't have the amount of real good old American men like the Cardinals do. Holliday, Wainwright, Skip, Berkman those 4 guys are incredible people

I just bought a Wii. I happened to be in Naperville visiting some friends and they said the Best Buy there had some in stock and sure enough they did. I only have the Wii Sports and Mario & Sonic Olympics right now and they have been fun, my arm is really sore this morning. I am thinking about getting MLB 2K8 and the NCAA Football 2008. Has anyone played these 2 games and what are your impressions. I am also thinking about Tiger Woods 2008 bought I don't want to go crazy buying games right now, I would get virtually no sleep.
