Does anyone know how you can register the Virtual Console games on nintendo.com? You usually register games by finding a little serial # on an insert that comes with the game but obviously there is no insert for a downloaded game. I was just registering some games I have had for awhile last night and registering some of them unlocks some cool features. I'd like to see what gets unlocked for the virtual console games but I can't find the code. Can anyone help?

edit: Never mind, I found a FAQ on Nintendo's site that said that if you email their tech support, they will take care of it.

Did anyone get a system today who wanted one? It sounds like there're supposed to be enough available now for people to get one off the shelves from this point forward.

The Cities once again were wiped out before stores opened. But this time I had the forthright and constitution to stand out side in a snow storm at 6am at Best Buy. I'd also like to state that my parents were in town from Iowa, meaning they drove 5 hours to see me while I spent the entire morning standing outside like an idiot. But I got a Wii.

That's what counts. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

edit: I see that Zelda: A Link To The Past came out today for virtual console. No Mario RPG though, as was rumored.

I linked my Nintendo account after registering the system for the warranty extension, and it automatically registers any games bought after that. Thanks for posting about the tech support email, I'd been thinking about trying to register the games I got before linking to the account.

I know I never thought I'd wait out for anything like this. I hope it's been fun, did you get a chance to impress your parents with the bowling?

No kidding. I went to Best Buy yesterday to pick up a new universal remote and I stopped by the video game section oln the off chance that they might have a classic controller. However, the Wii section was totally bereft. The only things there were a couple game cases. The system has been out for two months and you still can't find any accessories! It's starting to get annoying. Meanwhile though, there were several PS3s sitting across the aisle. I almost bought one but then I realized that I didn't really even want one and thus I couldn't justify the $600 (which I would have a lot more fun with spending it on Wii games anyway).

Okay, found a Wii (many thanks to itrackr.com). There appears to be another shipment circulating through this weekend.

The Wii is just total pure fun, I can't wait to see some future titles that will take advantage of the control. Great stuff.

Nintendo didn't seem to send a message to the message board like they did with the Forecast Channel, but if you update, the News Channel's up and running now too.

It's pretty cool for what it is, better than I expected and a lot faster than the Internet Channel. Now maybe they can catch up on the Forecast Channel so the temps aren't always 10 hours behind.

I've never gotten into Zelda but it sounded pretty epic, like nothing's matched it yet. I guess four years in development and a huge budget can do that for you.

Wii Sports is probably still my favorite, or tied with WarioWare (which is a lot of fun but probably not a system seller for many).

I think if Zelda and Wii Sports don't grab you, you might want to wait until things like Sonic (by the end of March), Space Mario (spring to early summer hopefully, but I have a feeling it might be longer), Resident Evil (holiday season) start to get out, I think there's a new Metroid planned somewhere in there too. Godfather and SSX are both scheduled for this spring, among others (Wii Play in a couple weeks) but I'm not too excited yet about much beside those first three.

If you think you might get into the Virtual Console, though(downloading and playing old NES, SNES, Genesis, TurboGrafx and N64 games), all that goes out the window and it might be worth it to pick one up. Mario Kart 64 out Monday, I was never too big on it but know a lot of people love it.

I know it's stupid to say a bunch of 10- to 20-year-old games can sell a system, though, so if you're not into the controls, Zelda or Wii Sports, you probably won't feel like you're missing too much for a while. For me, I didn't expect to shell out for a new system but the controls got me interested and the price point and free game got it done, and I've been really pleased with it.

Good point mothership, Madden was the only game I bought with the system and I think for a first-generation sports game they did a great job with it. I'd put it a little notch below Wii Sports and WarioWare, and also a little above Trauma Center.

I had pretty much sworn off Madden because of 12-button controls, and the idea of swinging my arm to throw a pass was another one of the big ideas that sold me.

Doing a quick check Animal Crossing, Bomberman Land, Dragon Quest Swords, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Harvest Moon, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl should all come out during the next year. Several of them within the next month or so.

Their also is already a sequel to LoZ: Twilight Princess that is well into developement and Wii Music looks like a heck of a lot of fun in the spirit of Wii Play and Wii Sports.

By the way, since everyone with a system has Wii Sports, is anyone really owning that game? I'm a pro bowler (230-something best game), tennis (2015 pro points, I wanted to see if they stop at 2000 or not), and baseball player, and within a hundred points or so in boxing. I don't really like golf but if I can get the others I might give it a shot.

For me, baseball became something of a pain to play with the same Mii once I got up so high, mostly because of pitching. Also I'm like the right-handed Jenks with splitters in the dirt.

Partly I'm hoping if I keep playing these games I'll unlock a new sixth game of basketball or something like 5000 Wii bucks. Mostly it's just the game that keeps me coming back the most, I play Wii Fitness some days and with 5 options once the disc's in, there's no telling how long it could stay there.

I'm a pro in Tennis, Bowling, and Golf. I haven't played the boxing much (I don't like the controls for it). I'm pretty bad at the baseball because I suck at pitching, so I'm only at like 450 in that. I love the mini-games, they add a lot of replayability.

I'm ready for a new big game to come out though. I have the 4 I bought on launch day (Zelda, Monkey Ball, Marvel, Tony Hawk) but I want more. WarioWare seems more like a gimmick than a game to me and I'm not into Rayman. Wii Play will hopefully be fun, but I want Mario or Metroid or even Sonic to come out. I'm also looking forward to Cooking Mama, I think my wife would get a kick out of that.

  • 3 weeks later...

I'm a pro in golf and bowling. I'm working my way up in baseball. I stink at tennis. I've found boxing to be pretty hard. I'm not gaining points very fast, even though I've won every fight thus far.

Any tips for boxing? I've figured out how to throw hooks to the body, but how do you consistently throw an uppercut?

While I'm at it, what's the best score anyone has gotten in bowling? My best is 215. My wife, who hates video games, loves Wii Sports. Her best score is 230. She once bowled 6 strikes in a row.

My best at bowling is 245, but the best on our system is my kid's buddy who bowled a 275. He lets the ball go in mid-air and it doesn't hook into the pocket, it just smashes into the head pin and everything else just disappears!

I'm also pro at golf, although I've only got a 2 under as my best I'm at about 1230.

Baseball is fun, but you gotta believe that when they get the graphics sorted with real players faces etc. there's gonna be an unreal baseball sim.

Don't try to knock your opponent out. Hold both the wiimote and nunchuck together and pull them quickly from one side of your body to the other to dodge. Once they swing and miss (and everything goes into Matrix time), throw two jabs to the body and face. Because they are unguarded, it really knocks them out quick. If you play defensive, it makes it much easier.

To me, this is what makes the system so exciting. Wii Sports is the tip of the iceberg for what they can do. Tennis, Boxing, Golf, Bowling, and to an extent Baseball had become tired formats on traditional systems because it is just not natural to hit some buttons with your thumb to do these things. There are so many other slight factors that effect the game. The genius of the Wii is the sensitivity of the controller and how a slight curve of the wrist can curve the bowling ball, yet the logic is fuzzy enough to allow anyone to play. You can enjoy it as a kid goofing around or an adult taking the motions seriously. It will be the developers that truly push the boundaries on this that succeed.

I would love a great baseball or tennis sim that heavily fine-tunes the control scheme. IMHO, that would be the killer app.
