I froze my tail off and got a preorder at the local gamestop. I'll be at the midnight pickup, and before I saw the result of the most recent south park, considered freezing myself until the release day.

I'm pretty excited, and I wish I would have preordered some games, hopefully that isn't a problem...

What is the price on them? I have been debating if I wanted a PS3 or a 360 - but then hearing you mention Zelda got me thinking about how I could give my PS2 to the kids and have the new Nintendo for myself.................

The success of the Wii depends a lot on whether if Nintendo learned their lesson. If they continue their console game liscensing they'll die again. The Cube and the N64 both died because Nintendo didn't open up development while Sony was allowing anyone who wanted to make a game for the PS1 and PS2. The environemnt chnaged and what worked for Nintendo when dealing with the 80s game crash didn't work in the 90s. Now, they changed their attitude with teh GBA and the DS. Which means that you have a lot of titles with a lot of junk as well. But it allows for things like Phoenix Wright.

$249 for the Wii, $49 for Zelda

If you want a second remote with the nunchuk attachment, it will cost you an additional $60. I think I'll eventually get the wii (I bought a gamecube for my parents and was very impressed) but $250 is too much, IMO. I'll wait the year or so, when it's under $200.

If I don't get the Wii this wiik, I will be shortly therafter. I can't wait to get my hands on a new Zelda game! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif

(That said, I'm still struggling with the PS3 / 360 purchase. There are plenty of next-gen games that I'd like to play....but they're seemingly all multi-platform. As much as I'd like to get a console that shows off my HDTV, I think I'm going to hold out and see how the 3rd party companies align themselves. Plus, I think the XBox 360 is eventually going to ship a larger Hard Drive....such that it's not worth it to put down $100 for one right now.)

Gears of War And what about Viva Pinata! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

That's a fair point, although you could just buy the core and get a hard drive later.

I'm pretty sure I'll end up with a 360 and a wii. I'm just not paying $250 for an overclocked gamecube.

We're definitely getting the 360 at some point...probably when the next Fable comes out.

Unfortunately, Fable was the first game I ever played (hey...I spent high school and college studying!), and now it seems that no other game lives up to my expectations.

Bah.

I guess Jade Empire is okay.

The 360 has the best exclusive list for the foreseeable future. It has three contenders for games that could be classics coming out in the next 6 months in Mass Effect, Bioshock, and Halo 3 (which can still be delayed). The PS3 has MGS4 and not much else I still think given the production delays, Sony would have been better off just doing a winter launch in Japan and delaying the US launch until March when they would have a strong launch title with MGS4.

end---

PS3 will have Granturismo 5 and HD which will be enough to sell a console to me, not to mention platformers like ratchet and clank and the jak series, of which the microsoft products have none..

while the ps3 isn't a great deal, i think people are overstating how much better the 360 is...

Considering you can pretty much get a Wii and XBox 360 for the same price as the PS3, I don't see why anyone wouldn't go that route.

Short Answer: Final Fantasy XIII.

Slightly Longer Answer: As long as the XBox 360 continues to wither on the vine over in Japan, Japanese game developers will continue to release their material where it will generate the most revenue. There are a lot of odd, quirky games that come out of the Japanese Market (Katamari Damacy comes to mind almost immediately, and I'll even admit to having played my share of Pokemon games). These kinds of games would never warrant the expense of a multi-platform release, and therefore are going to be PS3 exclusive.

Factor in Sony's first and second party developers (The people who developed Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, etc.) are also staying put on the PS3. Ultimately, though, a lot of my leanings are weighted on Square-Enix and Final Fantasy XIII; I've been playing the series ever since the first one launched on the NES. I've played every game in the series, but for 3, 11 (MMORPG), and 12 (which just came out). Based on that game alone, it's a foregone conclusion that I'll be picking up a PS3 at some point. It then becomes a matter of whether I can justify buying a 360 now and waiting for a PS3 price drop in a few years (when FF13 actually comes out).

Gears of War And what about Viva Pinata!

As someone who's "been there, done that" with respect to the FPS, I'd probably spend more time with VP than GoW. (I think I've put in less than 1 hour with the Half-Life, single- or multi-player.) I can take the occasional FPS (I bought 3 of them over the life of my GameCube - 1 if you don't count the Metroid Prime games), but seemingly half of the Xbox 360 titles out there are WWII shooters or other variations on the FPS.

Honestly, the one 360 Exclusive title that I'd probably buy if I had the console is Dead Rising, because that game really does hit on innovation. (Never before have I seen someone use a table umbrella as a means of fending off Zombies, for instance.)

Back to Wii-fanboyism!

What games are people interested in @ launch? My list:

- Zelda: Twilight Princess

- Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam (to see how it stacks up against the SSX franchise)

- Marvel: Ultimate Alliance (which I'd rather play with traditional controls...part of the PS3/360 dilemma)

- Madden

See, I'm not that big into racing games so I couldn't tell you the major differences between GT and PGR. And you're right that the 360 lacks platformers. But MS seems really committed to the Japanese market. No way does a game like Idolmaker come to the first Xbox. My main point though was its hard to see why to get a PS3 right away.

I played Excite Truck on sunday. All I can say is its a whole new experience. It is tough to describe it, but everyone else that I saw play it did the same thing as me. Struggled at first, but picked it up in under 5 min...all with a smile. I will for sure be getting one, along with Zelda and Red Steel.

This is going to revolutionize FPS and RTS games as "clicking and dragging" feels even better than with a mouse. I can't wait for Metroid...I just wish it could output in HD, but I will probably pick up a PS3 sometime over the summer for my graphic fix.
