Ray Olmedo signs with Tampa (2010 Nashville Sounds)

prophet
Don't know if this has been discussed somewhere, but yahoo shows that the brewers signed Olmedo to a minor league deal. He's a shortstop and he's a switch hitter. Anyone know anything else about him? Stats wise, he seems pretty terrible.

Actually looking at it closer, he's listed on there recent transactions as the Brewers signing him to a minor league deal, but on his player profile, he's listed as a brewer, but in the news and notes it says the rays signed him. http://sports.yahoo.com/m...oD1cE6KVDt2CqIhX7R.FCLcF

Anyone? I guess I don't really care either way.

Olmedo played in Nashville last year, and has left the organization.

Here's the original source of the signing. It lists Olmedo as signing with the Rays.

Yahoo's transaction list must have been wrong. It now says he's signed with the Rays. You scared me though - I wrote that short blurb for Yahoo's news and notes section, thought I made a mistake.

wow, this guy is still playing ball??? I remember when he was an "up and coming" shortstop in the early years of the decade and he did absolutely nothing. He wasn't any kind of an uber-prospect, of course, but he was supposed to do more than he did, that's for sure.

Olmedo was acquired by the Brewers from Texas last spring in exchange for catcher Matt Treanor. Worked out well for Matt, who got to the World Series. Not a deal Doug Melvin loses sleep over, in fact, he's probably very pleased he could help out Treanor. Olmedo now indeed has signed with Tampa Bay on a minor league deal.
