Brewers On Deck 2011

jonny5t
A few of us on the board collect the 5x7 cards that are handed out at each autograph station. I know not a lot of people don't care about them and don't even pick them up. Personally, I would love the help of any board member who could pick up any cards they have access to on Sunday. I will get extras of who I can , and would love to network with others come Monday morning. I can and will trade cards, autographs, etc for any one that can help. Thanks! Mark

Gonna put my ticket into the lottery for Yount. Really want to get my 1982 SI with him on the cover signed. If I get it done going to get it framed somewhere, would be a nice piece to my collection.

Yount has 2 SI covers from 1982.

Yes, one from during the season and one from the World Series I believe. I have the first one.

Kelby, at the on deck he'll only be signing 5x7 cards. If he's willing to sign at the stadium, his restaraunt or another area, he may sign your jersey. It'll be personalized, but he may sign it. If you don't want it personalized, be on the lookout online for a private signing. Mikita had one last year where he'll sign your jersey for 100 or 125? Which, if you take into consideration, it's really only 60 more than if you go to the on deck, minus the time you'd have to wait in line or other factors. If I ever get a Braun Jersey to be signed, that's the route I'll be going.
Are you sure Braun's only signing the 5x7 cards? Last year he said everything but just personalized it. Braun will also sign everything you throw at him at Spring Training or at least he has the past couple of years down there that I've noticed.

The new lottery system sure didn't stop people from showing up at 7am. The 8am rush is surely in effect as well. The masses seem to be in good spirits thus far. I'll try to post anything interesting that happens. Lots of people have memorabilia so most don't expect the 5x7 policy to hold much weight.

First find of the day: Prince Fielder growth charts for $1! There is some good stuff at the rummage, only the 2007 1982 mini-bobbles, though. They did have a few alternates.

Waah, I miss the rummage sale. But we attended the growth chart game last year, so I already have one of those.

The minis were going for $2. The lottery was fairly arbitrary, they selected a number (e.g. 3000), then that number and the next 250 won. They split it into two for Yount I think. My friend won in on Braun. He was great, signed whatever, asked if I wanted it personalized or not. It went fairly smoothly.

Just got home from On Deck. Had fun but the wife and I were both kind of getting tired. I got autographs from Bob Uecker and Mark Attanasio. I enjoyed meeting both of them, even though it was brief. I didn't bother trying to get any other autos (like I've said before, I'm not a big auto guy to begin with).

We each got a "grab bag" for 15 bucks. Each of us got the Hank Aaron and Italian Sausage bobbles, which I didn't have previously. She also got a Ted Simmons bobble, which is cool. Also included were two club level tickets to a random game. She also got a couple tickets to an Admirals game. The SCORE t-shirt each of us got was a bit less exciting.

Decent trip all in all. I didn't purchase anything else, but there was some neat game used gear and other swag for sale. This event is probably more fun for people with kids, as there is quite a bit for the younger ones to do.

Also wanted to note which isn't a shock, Greinke isnt too personable, but a very nice guy...He wouldnt do inscriptions, but this is clearly not his type of thing...Also heard Braun wasn't personalizing and adding inscriptions as well

Did you ask ZG for inscriptions that said "I'm going to sell 2 of these on eBay"?

Edit: It is cool that the players will sign multiple items. I always thought these type of events were 1 signature per person.

jj..I'm a collector and have never sold one autographed item....I had 2 tickets and paid $25 per for a ball for me and one for my brother that couldn't attend...plus my wife had a ticket and got one

The lady never punched my entry tickets, so I went back later and got 2 more chances for ZG, and lucky me my numbers were within range

On Deck was a good time this year. I still think my favorite part was the $1 Prince Fielder growth chart. As I said previously I ended up getting Braun, who was a good sport and signed my 8x10 and even asked whether I wanted it personalized or not. I later jumped in the Lucroy autograph line, personable guy. Manny Parra and Craig Counsell were taking photos and the Parra line was pretty sparse so my friend and I jumped in there, Parra seemed like he was enjoying himself and having a good time with people. Counsell was cordial as well.

The Canadian Poutine needs to win the recipe contest, it was excellent. The only thing I missed out on was the grab bags, but based on the hauls most people came away with I don't feel like I missed much. I used the money I was going to spend on those to get two bobbleheads from a vendor, so it worked out. I had to giggle when I saw a vendor selling the CC Sabathia disco bobblehead.

The Brewers charities jerseys were a cornucopia of failure from Jody Gerut to Chris Duffy to Ken Macha to Rick Peterson. There were even some Trot Nixon ST jerseys mixed in. I was amused.

I think the lottery system for marquee autographs, while somewhat arbitrary, makes things run a bit more smoothly in that you don't have people clogging up the stations starting at 10:00am, making the other player autographs more accessible and making it a bit easier to get around. I'd classify the day as a success for both myself and the Brewers. Bring on the baseball!

I'll also say that I kinda enjoyed the lottery system, though I didn't win. My friend went with his family and got 4 brauns. I was offered one, but turned it down since I figured he was only signing cards. Later he was signing while I was in line for Marcum and just missed him. Everyone I know who was there got a Greinke but me, which was a total bummer (Miggs, if you wanna work out any kinda deal on yer extra, please contact me ASAP). Still did pretty well.

The Rummage was kinda chaotic, I hit the gate and started rummaging through the ST/BP jerseys to find out the real deal ones were 15 feet to my left, by the time I realized it there was too big of a mob to get in there so I managed to get to the GU bats area, got a Damian Miller, just missed on a batting helmet with #2 on the back (Hall or Inglett?), ended up picking up a Bush and Villanueva ball, Brian Super Collector snagged a team ball, I musta just missed out on that as well. After that went back to the GU jerseys but everything was already gone except a signed Suppan and some Stan Kyles garb. Still got a ST Gagne jersey. Lo Cain and Escobar didn't have jerseys available. Anyone see a Cameron or Hall? Those were the four I was initially hoping for.

From there I was able to get balls signed by Wolf, Counsell (who I found out rides the Oak Leaf trail and inscribed "Blue Dukes" (his high school's nickname), Kentrail Davis, Eric Farris, Marcum, Rogers, Axford and signed cards by Heckathorn and whoever was signing with him (name escapes me). At the memorabilia area I picked up a George Scott ball with 2 inscriptions, a Johnny Logan ("57 champs"), and a Jenkins (03 AS) for 90.

Later on I convinced myself I needed a Sounds fitted hat for 25 (Stars hats were 10 but by the time I got over there only the real small or real big were left).

I'd say all and all I had a pretty good day outside of the 10-15 minutes I was bummed out that everyone else I knew there got Greinke except me. Nice to hear Braun is signing and inscribing (and sweet spotting?) whatever again.

Hope everyone else came up big. I'm sure Brian will post his haul soon enough (thanks again for the updates throughout the day, it really helped!)
