Its Official...Dan Patrick leaving ESPN

what a wonderful adventure it should be, leaving the Truman-Show-esque city of Bristol to discover that more sports teams exist beyond New England.

I wonder if he will still do sports or go the way of Kilborn or Olbermann.

Thank god. Good for him. Now I can officially distance myself completely from all things ESPN.

Sadly, I can't really find a sports web site that's as "thorough" or easy to read as ESPN.com (and by easy to read I mean stats and headlines-reading any ops are a waste of time). Where do you go?

I haven't really been a big fan of his since the glory days of he and Olberman on SportsCenter. His radio show had it's moments, but most of them came when Dibble was co-hosting. Dibble's a total idiot, but he was funny on there.

I think it sucks he is leaving. I love listening to his radio show every day. Him and Keith are great on the big show hour as well. He did mention he will make it back to the radio. It is just too bad it will not be on ESPN radio which is very well syndicated.

I wish him well though, and at least he got to go out the nice way unlike Keith O.

Patrick leaves a big hole in the ESPN Radio line up IMO.

That's an understatement. They can hang their hat on having two of the worst shows ever, though - Mike & Mike and The Herd.

I mean, what is their flagship show when Patrick leaves?

Kind of some harsh revies of ESPN. I love it, I watch Sportscenter every morning before work, I watch Baseball tonight, and even more during football season. I would be willing to bet that all these ESPN bashers watch it quite often. My guess is because they are all saying it was better 10 years ago with Dan and Keith. Of course it seems everything was better 10 years ago when something is as popular as ESPN for so long now.

Lots of speculation that he'll end up on WFAN as the permanent replacement to Don Imus.

Hopefully, they'll keep Charles McCord, and the two of them will be able to develop a relationship.

I like the Dan Patrick show. He's a solid voice on the world of sports.

I didn't have a single problem with Patrick, Id listen to his radio show once in a while, but Im more of a Rome guy. However on a side note, I hate Berman. He's terriable, his gig is so old and overdone.

So is the Patrick to replace Imus thing his most likely move? Or this Price is Right stuff Ive heard about? Or is he going to XM or Sirius?

I'll miss Patrick if he ends up going to Price is Right or something related that I won't watch. His show was great; he relied on his smarts and talked like a normal human. He didn't have to rely on schtick to get radio ratings unlike everyone else.

slightly off-topic, but everyone keeps bashing Rome or M&M as the worst shows on ESPN Radio, when you're forgetting Jason Smith, the midnight-4 am guy. how did he get a radio job with his delivery? Every other. Word. Is [long pause] it's own. Sentence.

it's so annoying.

Someone else started to make this point. To me, Dan has sounded board for awhile. I use to like the show a lot. Now, seems stale. I suspect doing that show everyday can be a grind. Sports are great, but might get a bit dry to do everyday.

You have to admit that there is no alternative, though, they have a monopoly on the medium. I watch as little as possible. I'll watch football and baseball games and a little ESPNews before I go to work in the morning to catch up a little bit. But I don't watch any BBTN or SportsCenter anymore and haven't watched either of them regularly for probably about 5 years.

I will watch ESPN Classic for boxing, though. Ringside is a great show on Saturdays and it has the guy who is the best on the network by my estimation - Brian Kenny.

The sole two reasons ESPN interests me is American Gladiators on Classic and the HD live sporting events, namely baseball. Their HD cameras made Petco Park look absolutely magical on Sunday. Occasionally I'll watch BBTN just to see if the Brewers are getting any press, but otherwise the station is worthless to me.

I do have to hand it to them, tho. With the advent of broadband internet and access to more information than ever on the computer, ESPN has managed to stay legitimate and somewhat relevant without many forays into such things as that celebrity show they had last year.

In college (97-01) the only time ESPN wasn't on was for South Park and the History Channel. Now that they lost their Sunday show, I can't remember watching it unless they are showing a Brewers game.

How can you hate Mike and Mike? IMHO, that's easily the best sports talk show on the air. Yeah, Greenberg is a weenie, but he and Golic have great chemistry.

It seems like that's all there is to the show...4 hours of "LOL GREENIE IS A GIRLY MAN AND GOLIC IS MANLY AND FAT LOL". They're fine when they actually talk about sports, though.
