Carlos Gonzalez agrees to extension with Rockies

Invader3K

This seems to be all but a done deal, already announced on Gonzalez's twitter account. 7 years, $80 million extension for CarGo.

Seems like a good move for the Rockies and for Gonzalez. They now have both Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki locked up under long term deals. This is also something of a big deal as he is a Satan Scott Boras client.

there must be a few players who are starting to realize that although agents like Boras are out to get them the most money possible, that Boras is also trying to get the most money for himself. and that means taking a pretty big risk on not getting injured to get the big FA payday. fielder turned down $100M from the Brewers to make $150M in free agency, but if he gets seriously hurt this year (sure hope not) he ends up finishing his career having made $20M. that's a pretty serious difference, especially considering the risk of a career injury is definitely present.

7/$80m seems like a bargain for the Rockies, and it sets up CarGo's family for a few generations. Let's hope this trend continues with Boras' clients.

I agree. It just seems like overpaying for a guy who's average at best in half his games.

Sidenote: Colorado sure is spending this offseason. Between this, Tulowitzki and De la Rosa, that's some serious money.

It sure appears that way to an extent, but fortunately for the Rockies they play at Coors Field.
that was hilarious.

his splits are pretty drastic, but isn't it that way for the majority of Colorado hitters? and that's still not a bad price to pay for a player who is awesome if only 50% of the time. for a city that hasn't had a very long history of baseball, maybe it isn't that bad of an idea to lock a few certain players in for a long time so that fans eventually have a small handful of players to look back at.
