Please help my Brewers story about my son win on espn.com [voting has ended]

palmettoscott

Good morning:

ESPN.com had a contest in December about your favorite sporting event in 2010 and I wrote a story about my son and I going to a Brewers game and it was picked as the daily winner and now is in the finals. Could you please vote for the Dec 1st entry (Scott Cain) so my son can tell all his friends he was a winner on espn. Voting ends tomorrow and we are currently in 2nd place.

I appreciate your help.

Here is the story FYI:

While there were many great games in 2010, the one that mattered most to

me was a mid-season baseball game between two mediocre teams.

A

little background. I am a father of three wonderful children who up

until Thanksgiving of 2009 lived right down the road from me outside of

Atlanta. This allowed me to coach their teams, be involved in their

schools, have daddy dates, etc. At that time my ex moved the children

to California which was a blow of epic proportions to my psyche and

mental health. While I went to see them as much as possible and talked

to them it was not the same. The one thing my oldest son and I would

always talk about was sports, especially baseball. I was born in

Milwaukee and am a die hard Brewers fan, my son growing up in Atlanta is

a Braves fan, and for years we had always made a date to go watch their

"battles" when the Brewers would come to Atlanta. So this summer my ex

and I had decided on the dates when I was going to have the children by

the luck of the draw or a higher power the Brewers were in town.

We

decided to get a large group together to have a great tailgate (I am

from Wisconsin after all) and were at the stadium early with some brats,

cornhole, etc. I was decked out in all my Brewers gear and of course

Jackson was in everything Braves and we spent the week leading up to the

game talking smack as only a father and son can. We went to the game

and had a blast, a group of 20 of us, but everyone was most worried to

make sure my kids had a great time. Well, by a miracle the Brewers won

and of course we had some fun with that. After the game we stayed in

the parking lot and waited until traffic let out and for some reason

security never kicked us out. We stayed in the parking lot listening to

our favorite music, throwing the football and frisbee and eating the

leftovers for 3 hours after the game, playing by the lights of the

stadium.

The next day I was taking the kids back to their mother

and Jackson and I were talking about the game and I told him that I was

glad the Brewers won and he told me, "It didn't matter Dad, I will

remember yesterday forever." I watch all kinds of games and am very

lucky to be able to attend games all over the country, but a June game

between the Brewers and Braves was the best game of the year.

Good story my man. My favorite memories as a kid were always going to Third World County Stadium with my dad and grandpa, and later with just my dad when Grandpa couldn't make it anymore. They only let me vote once dude, but hope I help ya.

ps: looks like you're in first now by 2 percent, good luck.

Voted. Good luck.

As a side note, some of what is in your story terrifies me. I just welcomed twin boys into the world last summer and I have a fear that they'll become Bears/Cubs fans (we live in Chicago) despite my best efforts. Good to hear though that you all transcend teams loyalties and just enjoy baseball together.

Thanks for all the votes and regarding the kids rooting for other teams. My dad grew up in Ohio and is a big Indians fan and moved to Milwaukee right before I was born and so I have been on both sides of the father/son cheering thing. I told the kids which teams they couldnt root for but after that I let them decide for themselves, and living in Atlanta I knew the risk I was taking.

Take them to a game in the bleachers at Wriggley as soon as you can. Yea, they will probably be scared for life but you wont have to worry about them being Cubs fans.

If your kids won't cheer for the Brewers, the Braves are a good second choice. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Being in California now, hopefully they will cheer for the Packers instead of the Los Angeles Vikings...

Up to 40%.

Have we ever lost one of these calls for votes? Maybe once with the pet costumes but it seems like Brewerfan always comes through in these situations.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006
