Erick Aybar/Maicer Izturis

If the Angels sign Beltre to play 3B they will be set in their IF with Kendrick at 2B and Morales/Napoli at 1B. That leaves SS where only one of Aybar and Izturis can start. With Roenicke's background with the Angels, I wonder if he has any insight as to whether either would be a fit to play SS in Milwaukee. I would love to see Aybar, as he would provide a top of the lineup hitter to get on in front of Braun and Fielder, but I'm not sure we'd matchup or have the ammo to get this done. If they signed Beltre they'd have no need for McGehee or Gamel and I don't want to open another hole for 2012 when Fielder goes. I don't think they need an OF or a LHP RP specialist like Stetter.

Here's a thought: would they bite on a Parra for Aybar deal in the hopes Parra could turn his "stuff" into something useful? I would do that in a heartbeat.

The Angles still have Brandon Wood, who like gamel, seemed to always be blocked by other players. He was a big time prospect, both he and Aybar came up about the same time. Aybar being the speed guy, and wood the power guy. Wood could be a good risk/reward guy to play short.

I saw Wood play in an A game in Rancho Cucamonga in 2005. This year he hit .321, 43 HR, 115 RBI. Dude was amazing. Somthing to the tune of 4-5 2 HRs and a triple. Best game I have ever seen a minor leaguer have. Just phenomenal. I went to probably 5 or 6 Angel games last season. He started all of them and had 1 hit. Unfortunately, the dude just can't hit major league pitching. He has had many, MANY opportunities to grab 3B and claim it as his own. Classic AAAA player. I may take a flyer on him but wouldn't give up much. Probably not even Parra.

Brandon Wood had an awful year last year. So bad he was replaced by Alberto Callaspo. He played 3rd just miserably. I forget his stat line but its something like .211 avg or something like that. Maybe it was a bad first year but I feel like the risk is a little too high there.

With Texas now signing Beltre and leaving the Angels looking for a 3B, is it time to re-look at this? Think the Brewers should offer McGehee and live with Gamel at 3B in exchange for AyBar/Izturis? I doubt Aybar would be moved, but would Izturis and a low prospect for McGehee seem reasonable?

Alberto Collaspo put up nice numbers in 2009 for KC: .300/.356/.457. I would think the Angels will start the season with him at 3B to see if he can recapture that form before they deal a valuable chip like either Aybar or Izturis. They have the money to pursue a more established guy than McGehee too if they wanted and since they can take on salary, they wouldn't have to give up as much talent.

I also don't think the Brewer lineup is deep enough to absorb the loss of McGehee especially looking ahead beyond 2011. Besides, what have you gained if you give up defense at 3B for defense at SS? Granted McGehee's not Brooks Robinson, but he's a lot steadier than Gamel.

Nevertheless it's something that can be monitored for a midseason move. By then, their needs may include someone like Parra if he's indeed pitching well.
