Astros Sign Bill Hall, 1yr/$3MM

Reported by Ken Rosenthal. He will be their starting second baseman, and they're expected to trade Jeff Keppinger.

 

Reasonable price for him, although I'm not looking forward to him inevitably hitting a game-winning home run against the Brewers this year.

Good for him. He did a fine job for the Bostons last year. Here's hoping he's able to continue resurrecting his career, and doesn't ever hurt the Brewers too much.

I still like Billy Hall...I hope he doesn't get booed on his return to MP...but I will be pulling for some 0-4 with 4 Ks.

I like Hall as a nice utility player. I don't see the need to pay him $3m and to give him a starting job especially 2B (SS would be more of a toss up)

I never even realized how much playing time Hall ended up getting last year. Guy hit .247/.316/.456/.772 last year with 18 HR's in just under 400 PA's. Not at all bad with a 57 wRC+ in 2009.

 

This is a guy I still cheer for. He was a fun player to watch, and I often forget how good he was in 2005-2006. Let's just hope he continues to kill the Reds and that the 'Stros play the sCrUBS on Mothers day.

It seems as though there was a lot of interest for a guy that the Brewers basically gave $6 million to go away and play elsewhere. Frankly, it would be kind of nice to have Hall on the roster now as an emergency shortstop, but I'll withhold judgment to see what Counsell ends up getting.

Maybe Doug can pull a Jedi mind trick and convince the Stros to swap Betancourt for Bill Hall. "These are not the shortstops you are looking for"!
