Broken Bells is just fantastic. James Mercer and Danger Mouse.

Its difficult to say how much I like it right now as I have only been listening to it for a week, but I think its my favorite album since Challengers by the New Pornographers and I think that came out in mid 07. Note, this is from someone who really liked The Shins. If thats not your kind of music you may find it a little slow.

Been getting down on a lot of new music recently.

This Will Destroy You - A lot like Explosions in the Sky, the album leaf etc.

Just saw the movie Once so I went out and got the soundtrack and The Swell Season, pretty good stuff.

Also just the entire Nada Surf discography. I had some of their cds a while back but they got stolen and just recently remembered how much I enjoy them. Very underrated band IMO.

I'm gonna get knocked for this...

While considered by most to be one hit wonders, I was one of the few people who remained a fan of Seven Mary Three over the years. They put out a couple of stellar albums AFTER American Standard and Rock Crown but no one noticed. Stopped trying to be 90s grunge band and just put out some good music.

Last Tuesday they released an acoustic live record called BackBooth that is pretty great. Does NOT include Cumbersome (covered by every bar band in America), but does include Lucky, as well as the unrecorded track Don't Walk with the Devil and a cover of That's how Strong my Love Is.

Is Broken Bells out yet? I have tried to find it on emusic and Slacker with no luck. I keep hearing the radio song constantly on XMU and I really want to download the album.

Looks like its not out till March 9th. I have a leaked copy thats floating around the internet until my preorder comes.

I've seen Brettac1 over at the Drive By Truckers boards today, so I know there are a couple of us fans here, but THE BIG TO-DO drops today. $9.99 Itunes gets you 13 tracks plus a bonus cover of KISS' Strutter, or, I'm told, you can get it at Best Buy for $7.99 today.

The album is great. I wouldn't use it as an introduction for new fans (try The Dirty South or Decoration Day), but overall it's a very worthy effort from one of the best rock bands in America... Highlight Tracks: Fourth Night of my Drinking, After the Scene Dies, Get Downtown, Birthday Boy

Gotta say I love the new Radio Dept. album, very chill and pop infused in my opinion. Swedish band.

I seem to be doing a bit of the Swedish culture circuit as I also just finished the first two books in the Millenium Trilogy from Stieg Larsson. Just waiting for 'The Girl that Kick the Honets Nest to come out. I highly recommend them as well but I suppose that is for another thread...

I picked up We Are The Fallen's debut album, Tear The World Down, this week. Overall, I find the more I listen to the album the more I enjoy it.

For anyone who liked the band Evanescence back in 2003-2005 it might be worth checking out. Three of the original members of Evanescence (Ben Moody, John LeCompt, and Rocky Gray) have teamed up with bassist Marty O'Brien and Carly Smithson from American Idol fame to create what I tongue-in-cheek like to call Ev 2.0.

If you compare Ev's Fallen with Tear The World Down you'll hear the same rock crunch, similar musical arrangements, and overall a good album. This is mainly due to Ben's influence, as when Ben left Evanescence in 2003 much of that rock crunch went with him. Carly's no Amy Lee vocally, but overall the theme still works well.

I've been on a relative buying spree lately:

The New Pornographers - Together

Not as good as Electric Version or Twin Cinema, but better than Challengers. Dan Bejar's contributions are usually my favorites on NP albums, but I found his songs on this release to be a bit underwhelming. I do think this one contains some of AC Newman's better work though.

The National - High Violet

An atmospheric counterpart to the melodramatics of 2007's Boxer. This one is the better of the two, to my ears.

The Black Keys - Brothers

Outstanding release that tails off at the end, but 12 of the 15 songs are absolutely phenomenal with the hooks in the first 4 being ridiculously contagious. I've only delved into Attack and Release prior to this one, but now I know that I should dig deeper.

LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening

Sound of Silver was my favorite release of 2007. My expectation level for this one was off the charts, and somehow it still delivered. Probably more consistent than Sound of Silver from top to bottom. Sure the beats can be a bit derivative at times, and the lyrics are deliberately non-sensical, but James Murphy truly can do no wrong. If this is LCD Soundsystem's last release, he's left with a bang.

Yes, 2010 has been a great year for music.

I wasn't a huge fan of 'Attack and Release' so if you really did enjoy that album and wanted to dig deeper with respect to the Black Keys I would recommend 'Thickfreakness'. It's what started my love affair with them years ago. It's their can't miss album (IMO).

Dan Auerbach's solo album 'Keep it Hid' is pretty amazing as well.

I thought Attack and Release was a different direction from their usual stuff (I blame Danger Mouse's production). I still liked it, but in a different way. Brothers is outstanding however and is a true Keys album even though they still delve into some new directions. Theres Auerbach signing in a falsetto voice and some songs (Never Gonna Give You Up in particular) that sound like a true oldie you have been hearing on the radio for decades.

Regardless of all that, 4 of the first 5 songs on Brothers (Howlin' For You is actually my low point of the album but I assume I am in the minority there) seem like they will hook anybody in one listen. My boss, who had never heard of the Black Keys until 2 weeks ago, had Everlasting Light on repeat for 3 hours this morning.

If you like any of Rock/Garage Band/Oldies music in general I recommend you give Brothers a listen. You may not become a rabid fan, but I think pretty much everyone will at the very least like what they hear. I can't wait to see these guys again at Lolla this summer.

And thanks for the National Review. I didn't know they had a new album so I will have to check that out.

The new Foo Fighters album "Wasting Light" is fantastic. All 11 songs are very strong, might be their best work since the first two albums. Although I have liked everything they have done all solid. But this new record has lived up to all the hype.

Have you seen the documentary the FF just put out? "Foo Fighters: Back and Forth" stars with Dave in Nirvana, and traces the band from lineup-to-lineup, album-to-album, all the way up to Wasting Light. It was on VH1 a few nights ago, and while it could have come off as blatantly promotional....I really enjoyed it. I always enjoyed watching their videos, but at some point in the past 3-5 years, I started looking at the number of good songs they've come out with, and slowly realized that I'm a fan.

Bought the new album almost immediately after watching the documentary, but I haven't listened to it yet.
