This thread rules.

Just to follow up on some other people's unfinished thoughts for 2007, Wincing the Night Away is and always was underwhelming, Neon Bible was just okay, Our Love to Admire (Interpol) is embarrassingly bad, and Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga is still awesome.

Last CD I bought was Talking Heads - Fear of Music.

Wow, this thread went over 2 years without an update....

I just bought this:

While, I'm more of a hair metal guy, I've always followed these guys. What a great album.

The Deep Dark Woods: "The Winter Hours" - phenomenal. Country rock, and the music sounds like you'd expect it to given the band name and album title - cold, depressing and most of the songs deal with loss and death, though the lyrics are stilted in an old timey fashion, so it doesn't take itself too seriously. Sounds somewhere between a happy Jason Molina song and a sad Gordon Lightfoot song.

a fan of indie/pop folk music and happily discovered Mumford & Sons recently.

also picked up an album by a band named Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin. only got it because i thought their name alone deserved the purchase, but they turned out to be pretty good.

"So I sort of went crazy on Wednesday and bought the following:

Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavillion

The Avett Brothers - I and Love and You

The Avett Brothers - Emotionalism

M. Ward - Hold Time

Passion Pit - Manners

St. Vincent - Actor

Girls - Album

The xx - XX

David Rawlings - A Friend of A Friend

Grizzly Bear - veckatimest

I think that's all.

dude, you need to join emusic --- http://www.emusic.com/

they have all of those and it's a whole lot cheaper than dropping $100+ on cds..

btw, saw the Avetts on new years day...slick as always, though the new stuff doesn't allow itself to acoustic headbanging as much as everything pre-emotionalism

That is where I got them all. I paid $15.99 to get all of that music because I used to be a member and when I signed back up I got 75 free downloads.

Spoon - Transference

I have been listening to the leak for a week now, and the actual CD is waiting for me at home from Amazon right now. I like it a lot and I think the critics will too. I don't think it will be as well recieved by their new casual fans and I would be as shocked if it gets as much radio airtime as the last album. It reminds me more of Girls Can Tell or Kill The Moonlight than GaGaGaGaGa or even Gimme Fiction and to me at least thats a good thing.

Crazy Rhythms is an all time favorite of mine, hope you enjoy it, pogo. Had a chance to go see them play a free show in Millenium Park this summer and it was unbelievable. Never thought I'd get the chance to see them play live.

Just want to thank everyone for the music suggestions. I have especially enjoyed Vampire Weekend, M.Ward, and Motion City Soundtrack.

I also recently added The Ting Tings--We Started Nothing after seeing their SNL performance and Train--Save Me San Francisco after reading some good reviews.

Keep the suggestions coming!

The best album released last year. Yes it looks like 70's soft rock. Dawes - "North Hills"

Perfect, if somewhat innocent, folk rock recalling The Band and Wilco. These guys are all in their late teens/early 20's and have a wonderful future ahead of them. The instrumentation is simplistic but effective and the lyrics are solid. They used to be kind of a California power punk band and it comes out in their live concerts, which need a bit of refinement. There's just a charm to this. I'd recommend downloading at least a few of the tracks.
