anyone else buy Against Me! New Wave yesterday? I find it pretty good...for a band that's supposed to be anarchists, they sure are drifting towards the middle...that said, they've always been fairly poppy, there's just a a lot more polish on the production this time around...enjoyable...but not the same band that recorded reinventing axl rose...

haven't listened to spoon yet, but i bought it yesterday..

I'm listening to the new Interpol right now, and it isn't good.

Yea, I agree. Yuck.

The new Happy Mondays album is interesting, not sure what to make of it yet. I really like the keyboard on Jellybean (track 1). That's the highlight so far.

the new White Stripes cd is pretty awesome, all the songs are good and interesting. i'd say its a cd to check out. Also, saw Collective Soul at summerfest (amazing show, they always put on a good concert) and they said they have a new cd coming out in the end of August. Played 4 new songs, they all sounded pretty awesome.

Bringing this back thanks to the much improved search function.

Aesop Rock - None Shall Pass

I just got this yesterday and I have to say that it is really good. I have been a big fan for a long time and saw him do an amaizing live show 3 or 4 years ago in Chicago. His last two albums starting with Bazooka Tooth were very disappointing to me as the production (which he did himself) made the songs practically unlistenable. His lyrics and flow was still great of course, but the over production just ruined everything. Thankfully this time he has his old producer back for most of the tracks and when he does the production it is really toned down. While its not as good as his older stuff, it is very very good. This album may just get me back into underground rap.

I'm listening to the new Interpol right now, and it isn't good. Seems to be a case of diminishing returns with this band... "Turn On The Bright Lights" was near-brilliant, "Antics" was merely very good and now this album might best be described as average.

Of course the National should be on all top 5 for the year. Just saw them on Saturday night and were great. No love for Josh Ritter, one of the three best songwriters out releases his most adventurous album this year and gets no talk here.

If you like National and Neutral Milk Hotel then go get the new Okkervil River (cant spell, sorry) it is really good as well.

The best album from last year still gets very little pub, it is the Dust of Retreat by Margot and the Nuclear so and so's (but there is one terrible song).

I bought Motion City Soundtrack's latest album, Even If It Kills Me, on Tuesday and let me just say, wow. I've been listening to this non stop and it just doesn't get old. All the tracks are catchy and fun to sing along to and are also great lyrically. I like this album more than their first, I Am the Movie, which I prefer more than Commit This To Memory.

Another great album I purchased was Chiodos' Bone Palace Ballet. I don't know how many of you are into the screamo bands, but this one definitely rocks. Actually, there is considerably less screaming on this album than their last, All's Well That Ends Well. Still a lot of keyboard action that accompanies the hard rock and their lead singer, whom has an amazing and unique voice. I'd highly recommend either of these albums to fans of their genre.

Saw Interpol and the White Stripes mentioned earlier... if you're into that genre, then check out The Editors - "An End Has a Start". I like them much better than either of those two.

I will have to check them out. Heard of them, just never listened to them.

Im looking forward to the new Foo Fighters on Tuesday.

You won't be disappointed. It, at first couple of listens, is rather wonderful. I'll second a vote for Editors, even though the new album isn't as good as The Back Room from 2005.

And if there are any fans of shoegaze/spacerock/drone rock, beg, steal or borrow a copy of the self-titled album by the English band The Early Years. They aren't getting anywhere near the hype of most of the Pitchfork crowd, but it will be one of my most played new albums by year's end.

Cool, man, thanks for the tip. Big, big fan of the space rock. Anyway, on a similar note, check out A Place to Bury Strangers s/t if you get the chance. I'm absolutely hooked on that album. And the Deerhunter EP Fluorescent Grey is also quite good.

Ooh, ooh, a new CD of Simpsons music! This is my surprise gift from the S.O., who preordered it from Amazon. I'll give it a first listen later today. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/smile.gif

Maybe this doesn't fit in with the tone of the rest of the thread, but it was a very nice surprise for me.
