Great American Ballpark, Cincinnati

RobDeer 45

Hey guys, found out I'm moving to Cincinnati for a few years and was curious if any of you have been to Great American Ballpark. The first thing I thought about was that I can't wait to watch the Brewers down there! So I'm asking you guys what you think of the park and also the city. I really don't know much about Cincy but trying to figure out as much as possilbe. I currently live in Minneapolis and have spent a lot of time in Milwaukee and was curious what Cincy will be like compared to either of those cities.

Thanks in advance for any help or info you can shoot my way.

I've been to GABP. It's a nice place to see a ballgame. Nothing that special but not terrible either. The open concourses are nice on a warm summer night, but they explain why the ball carries so well there. I imagine the fan support will be better this year. Cincy itself seems like a nice town and you have the option of living in northern Kentucky as well. I like that it is Milwaukee-sized and doesn't seem to have serious traffic issues.

I'd look into living on the Kentucky side. I have a few friends from college who moved to Cincy for work, and they all chose to live in Kentucky instead of Ohio. I'm not sure why though. Maybe the taxes and cost of living are lower?

Awesome, thanks for the input. Ya, I've heard of a lot of people doing the northern KY thing too. We are looking in to that. I'm excited to check out the stadium....especially when the Crew is there.

If anyone else has any info, keep firing! Thanks!

Me and some buddies went to the Brewer series in April in 08. We drove in early Saturday morning for an afternoon game. The stadium was really nice and it seemed like there were a lot of good seats. As far as nightlife, we were told that Cincy didn't offer a whole lot, at least not where we were staying but we headed across the bridge to Newport, Kentucky (like a 5 min ride) and went to the Hofbrauhaus German beer hall. They had great beer and a great environment. I'd definitely recommend checking it out.

I just want to point out that the Brewers open the 2011 season in Cincinnati. I plan on being there for the opener on Thursday (aside from games played in Japan, I think the Reds historically have always had the first game to open the season). Sorry I can't offer any advice about the city, I've only been there once before, but I think it will be a pretty exciting way to open the season given the expectations.

Thanks rawbecht for the tip on the German beer hall. That looks to be a must stop.

I liked Great American Ballpark. It is a nice stadium, nothing special though. The fans were pretty bad though. An infield pop up by Griffey or Dunn would have the fans screaming as if it had a chance to be a HR. Other than that, they hardly seemed to care about the game. The city itself seemed pretty nice in the areas I was in. Every street seemed to be under construction when I was there though. There were a ton of homeless people around the stadium too. There weren't as many as you would see outside of US Cellular in Chicago, but it's probably the 2nd most I've seen around a stadium. The nightlife in Cincy was non existent too. It was hard to find a decent bar after the games we went to. I only spent a weekend there though so maybe I didn't get around too see enough of the city. Just thought I would share my experience there.

I will def check out the German Brew Haus! Thanks for the tip. Ya I've heard the DT really doesn't have much for night life. There are some areas just out of DT that seem to be the happening places. But I don't think there is a ton of night life. Which is fine by me for the most part. Just as long as I can find a few good spots for the occasional night out.

As soon as I saw I was moving I checked the schedule and saw that we opened there. I knew it was meant to be!!!
