Reds Repeat Guaranteed: Re-sign Miguel Cairo for 2 years!

Interesting thing about Cairo: He's been in the majors each year from 1999 - 2010, and he hasn't once cracked |WAR|>1. That's really impressive, if you ask me.

I must say, I'm loving the passion I'm seeing for these huge signings! Deals like this one and the Francoeur deal will define next season.

I wouldn't count the Reds out just yet. They are one of the teams inquiring about Greinke. Could you imagine that rotation if they got him?
"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

from their site...

One of the biggest players to command speculation at the Winter Meetings

is Royals ace Zack Greinke, who is rumored to be available in a trade.

Some reports in recent weeks have linked the Reds to a potential deal,

but in reality, there was nothing going on.

"I haven't had any discussions with them," Jocketty said of the Royals.

"We've had zero conversations with agents or clubs today," Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said on Tuesday.

Cincinnati's payroll isn't likely to drift much higher than $80 million in 2011 after being at $76 million this past season.

"What it does is help us maintain what we have," Jocketty said. "That's

kind of what we had to do last year. If we hadn't been able to do that, I

don't know what we would have done this year. We would have been way,

way over budget."

My favorite quote about the Reds inactivity this offseason?

?

"There's not a lot we feel we have to do to

improve. We certainly could improve. We're not going to do anything

crazy." Jockety said.

Maybe he slept through through the playoffs.

Or maybe he looks at his two rookie pitchers, plus Cueto, Bailey and Volquez along with Arroyo and thinks they MIGHT just stand to improve with seasoning.
