Ty Wigginton to Colorado

In another head scratching move this off season Ty Wigginton is set to join the Rockies at a 2 year $7.5m contract with a 3rd year option that has a $500k buyout. That's right Ty Wigginton just got a guaranteed $4m a year for 2 years after hitting .248/.312/.415 as mainly a 1B.

Especially after Colorado just got Jose Lopez - who plays a lot of the same positions.

That's a lot of money for RH bench player who isn't particularly good on defense.

Well he was an all star. :-P

 

But there paying for his versatillity (which in this case means playing several positions at below average). His numbers should improve in Colorado and he strikes me as a perfect fit for a NL bench as he was in Houston before. Look at some other contracts going to sluggers, this is not that much of a strech.

I have no problem with him getting a job. I could even maybe see $4m for one year. Its the second year that really gets me.
