Carlos Pena to Cubs?

Weirdos19

I keep reading this on mlbtraderumors.com and can't help but laugh to myself.

Isn't an aging Derrek Lee a better option? pena didn't even hit .200. Would LOVE to see him batting next to Soriano in Chicago.

Hendry is easily the worst GM in baseball. Ick.

On a 1-yr. deal that wouldn't be too expensive, the Cubs might catch lightning in a bottle with Pena. BABIP isn't everything, but his .222 from '10 suggests that he should be expected to produce closer to his '08 & '09 numbers next season.

His out-of-strike-zone contact rate jumped way above his career norms last season, which might suggest he was chasing pitches & making a lot of outs that way. That kind of thing should be coachable, but you never know.

He might have hit under .200 but he drove in more runs than Fielder and that was facing a lot of Boston and New York pitching.

You can't look at his career numbers since he wasn't good enough until his break out with the Rays to get a full time position so his entire career in the majors is basically 2007-2010. In 2006 as a 28 year old in the Yankee's AAA he hit .260/.370/.454 hardly someone you'd expect to kill the ball the following year.

I'm not sure I get what you're trying to say?

He has a .911 OPS in over 1500 AAA at bat's, so I'm not sure why I'd look at that one year.
