R.I.P. Irvin Kershner

Best known for directing my favorite movie, ever -- The Empire Strikes Back. Kershner was one of Lucas's professors at USC, and initially refused the invitation to direct ESB. Thank goodness he changed his mind. You'll be missed, Irvin.

"I like to fill up the frame with the characters' faces. There's nothing more interesting than the landscape of the human face."

I feel dumb, I always assumed George Lucas directed the Star Wars movies. Well, Kershner did a good job.

Here's the easy way to remember -- Lucas directed the awful ones, and A New Hope. Richard Marquand directed RoTJ. Lucas is responsible for every single line of cringe-worthy dialogue, though. He wrote (or co-wrote) all 6.
