As a graduate of a CAA school, I would like to point out that only two conferences have three teams with at least 27 wins this year -- the Big East and the CAA. The CAA had six teams finish with at least 20 wins. Terribly underrated as a conference this year.

Regarding Pomeroy, yes the are efficient, but Pomeroy also ranks them 345/345 teams in adjusted tempo. The slow pace isn't a myth.

I don't think anyone disputes that (maybe somewhere in the thread but I didn't see it). The point about pace is that is really doesn't matter. It's just used to calculate the efficiency numbers.

Just for reference sake, they person who will probably win our office bracket is a secretary who is a self-described redneck who has never watched college basketball in her life. Her final four was Kentucky, Temple, Butler and Boston University. She had Duke and KU losing in the first round. Butler/Kentucky final and Kentucky winning the whole enchilada. Although I cant remember which one, she also had a 14 seed in the elite 8, but they lost in the first round.

Meanwhile, college basketball junkies are left wondering what happened.

I'll still take a tournament like this over one of them where all four #1 seeds make the Final Four. That's boring to me.

Agreed (even though alll four number one seeds getting to the Final Four has only happened once). I'm rooting hard for VCU.

VCU or Butler for me. The other side is slime ball coach vs slime ball coach. Calhoun is already suspended for games next year and Calipari has 2 final four runs that have been removed from the record books already.

It is funny when they say Calipari is taking his third team to the final four. The first two have been vacated by the NCAA so he is technically his first

I'm in a pool with 86 entries. People were allowed to submit up to 3 entries. I only submitted 1 bracket.

I only had 3 of the Elite 8 teams, 1 Final 4 team, and zero in the championship game; yet I am guaranteed a share of 5th place and will tie for 3rd as long as UConn doesn't win it all.

Hopefully some reporter asks Cal the stock question on how he is handling his first trip to the final four!!

Something I didn't know until a friend brought it to my attention: Shaka Smart (VCU's 2nd-year Head Coach) is from Wisconsin (Oregon, WI to be specific -- just South of Madison).

It's as close to a rooting interest as I have in the teams remaining.

That would be priceless. Please let someone ask that

Marquette has signed Buzz Williams to a contract extension.

Buzz Williams got his wish a day early.

Wanting to sign a new contract with Marquette University before he

left for the Final Four in Houston, the Golden Eagles' coach did just

that on Wednesday, signing a sweetened deal that ends any speculation he

might leave for the open job at Oklahoma.

Terms were not disclosed, but it's believed the contract will again

be in the form of a rollover and pay Williams in excess of $2 million

annually.

Some questions for the group:

1) Does UCONN winning the Championship legitimize the Big East and their tournament performance?

2) Does Butler going to back-to-back Championship games, VCU making the Final Four, and the performances in recent years of Davidson, George Mason, and others mark the end of the notion of the "power conferences" in basketball?

1) I don't really think so. Only 2 of the 11 teams "outperformed" their seed, a bunch underperformed. If Butler won it wouldn't suddenly make the Horizon League a great league.

2) Only 6 of the last 52 Final Four teams came from conferences outside of the Power 6. One of those was Marquette in '03, when C-USA had a handful of top teams, and another was Memphis in '08. With Coach Cal and his recruiting (legitimate or otherwise) you're never really a mid-major. It's great that more mid-majors are doing well and gaining recognition, but I don't think a team like VCU or Mason making a FF run every few years necessarily ends that notion. I think it's more the fact that particular teams from smaller conferences (Gonzaga/Xavier/Butler/etc.) have been standing out the last several years. That's not to say some power conferences aren't overrated and some mid-major ones aren't underrated.

The Sklar Brothers had this to say on Twitter during the game last night:

"This game is ugly. I've seen more scoring on a BYU recruiting trip."

Are they buying jokes from Rick Reilly? I loved "Cheap Seats", but wow...
