College Basketball 2010-2011

I don't think Pitt ends up as a #1 after losing to UConn today. Not that it's a bad loss, just that other contenders for a 1 seed figure to play into this weekend.

Kemba Walker is a beast.

I just dont know who jumps them. Ohio State, Duke, and Kansas are in but I have a hard time seeing ND jumping Pitt. UNC and Texas shouldn't either.

Marquette is so bad at defending the three point shot. All year long has been a no mans land type of help defense which leads to open three point shooters.

Guys continually "help" on dribble penetration, but in reality they

often don't really even get that close to the offensive player

penetrating. Instead they just end up sagging off the guy standing

behind the three point line. In effect, they are guarding nobody.

Then

of course the guy penetrating kicks the ball out to the perimeter

shooter for a wide open three. It's even more frustrating when playing a

team like Louisville who loves to shoot a ton of threes. Everyone knows

this. Pitino coached teams have always shot tons of threes. Yet, over

and over a guy on their team would drive with the intention of kicking

the ball out to a three point shooter and our "help" defenders would

continually fall for this. Sag off the shooter he was guarding even

though he likely wouldn't have been able to help much on the penetration

anyways. Very frustrating.

Stay at home on the shooter and let

the big guy help. Lastly, if you're going to help on penetration, have a

clue if you can actually effect the guy penetrating instead of sagging

off your man for no reason at all besides to give up an open three.

Marquette was playing their third game in three days, and this was Louisville's first game of the tourney. You could see Marquette getting tired about 15 minutes into the game. They did a good job of defending the first 15 minutes, but when they got tired they started getting late on switches and kick-outs and then it was over. When Crowder and JD-O got two fouls by the 10 minute mark and had to play sparingly the last 10 minutes of the first half, that didn't help either. But IIRC, Marquette led at least the first 10 minutes of the game.

Marquette is 240th in college ball at three point defense this year, yesterday wasn't an aberration due to being tired. They suffer badly first with on ball defense at stopping penetration and then their awareness as help defenders is atrocious.

So embarrassing. Has UW always struggled offensively in Indy? Just awful

You don't have an Adam Wainwright. Easily the best gentlemen in all of sports. You don't have the amount of real good old American men like the Cardinals do. Holliday, Wainwright, Skip, Berkman those 4 guys are incredible people

I thought Travon Hughes wasn't on the team anymore. That was a poor poor poor final possession to end the game. Wow. Pathetic. Way to kill my Friday night Spring Break buzz.

Yes, my immediate thought was that we got knocked to a 5 seed with this one. Wonder what this does to Illinois. Could they be out with MSU, Michigan and PSU getting in?

After they pulled this crap last year, I swore I wouldn't get as invested in Wisconsin basketball. I still watch all the games, but I'm just not letting myself get excited for the tournament anymore. Bo Ryan's teams disappoint at this time almost every year.

They scored 32 pts, I'm not gonna blame the only guy who played half way decent all night. At least they'll be rested.

It's incredible just how bad the Badgers are outside of the Kohl Center. Even outside of the 15-for-51 (!!) shooting, no one looked like they had a real interest in rebounding.

They better hope like there's no tomorrow that they don't draw a talented mid-major in the first round, otherwise they're going to get embarrassed.

MU picks up another great athlete/scorer, Todd Mayo, brother of OJ Mayo, committed to the 2011 recruiting class. The future looks really good for MU.

They have been doing this for a while now. Buzz can recruit scorers with the best of them. Although dont over-hype Mayo because of his brother, he is nowhere near that level, if his recruitment says anything. They need to be able to recruit quality bigs. If they start doing that then the future really does look good. Buzz is great at recruiting athletes for sure

Yesterday's game is what i've feared and been saying about this Badgers team, they are so incredibly reliant on the jump shot. It's 80 percent of their offense and when it's not falling, they really have nowhere else to turn to score points. Taylor is the only guard or wing player that can create a shot off the dribble and he's often forced to try and do this with about 5 seconds left on the shot clock after UW has passed the ball around the perimeter 10 times for the first 30 seconds of the shot clock. When Taylor though is having an off game and thus isn't able to continually bail out a largely useless offense set late in the shot clock, it's an empty possession.

The sad thing is the Badgers played great defense and held Penn St. to 33% shooting, yet never once, not a single time did UW try and turn one of those missed shots into some easy transition points. It's so frustrating to watch. I understand that Bo has a half court belief system, but come on, can't he allow his players to get out and turn a defensive stop into transition points at least once in awhile? Does the team have to slowly walk the ball up the court every single possession?

Not only are they completely reliant on the jumper in general, but the team was just clueless on offense for the entire game. All PSU had to do was jump out well on screens, double the ballhandler, & then fall back. UW was never really able to exploit their aggressiveness.

I loathe the swing offense, and I thought PSU exploited its general lack of versatility quite well. Why the Badgers didn't just keep dumping the ball down to Taylor or Leuer posting up on the blocks is beyond me.
