Rattlers Unveil Updated Logos

I need to preface this post by saying that I really like the work Studio Simon does with baseball logos. They are very talented and have taken some pretty outdated logos to make a few instant classics. My only complaint about their (his) work is that since so many teams have used their services a lot of logos out there have the same overall look and feel. That of course can be viewed as more of a tribute to the success they have had.

However, I'm not a fan of the choice they went with on this one. The main "Rattlers" text is particularly weak for me, particularly on the jersey usage. Plus, I am a firm believer that any baseball logo should do something, subtle/clever or obvious to convey that the organization has something to do with baseball. The pictures are rather small, so maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see a bat, ball, diamond, etc. implemented anywhere in the design.

I also don't like so many alternative logos being used. Have a strong corporate logo, use the text for your jersey schemes, and find 1, maybe 2, strong hat/sleeve designs.

And yes, I tend to be overly critical with this stuff because I am in the field.

I don't think it's necessary to have something that conveys the organization is part of a certain sport. I just look to see if the logo is cool, if I'm curious about what sport they play, I'll check to see if I don't know.

I do agree though that the Rattlers on the jersey is weak.

I also agree that there are too many hat logos. The W with the snake wrapped around it is cool and the R with the snake tail completing the R and the rest of the body and head as part of the R I also like. Those are enough.

For me, the fangs in the script (both for Wisconsin and Rattlers) have more of a dripping blood effect, especially given the color, and comes off as a bit macabre -- and adjective not usually associated with a baseball team's logo. But the youth teams should continue to enjoy the look.

The new designs smack of "Twilight."

The new designs smack of "Twilight."

Yeah, "Vampire" was my first thought when looking at the text. Maybe its to appeal to the younger crowd...

Although, its OK, if they have the picture of the rattler with it. At least it gets context then. Would be better of they only dropped two letters to make two fangs.

But the "TR" Cap without the logo should go...
