Derek Lee and Kevin Correia?

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/

Not sure if this has been touched on yet, but this article implies that we trade Fielder for pitching and pick up Lee to replace him and Correia as a back of the rotation starter. No idea how much either would cost in FA, but if the price is right I think this may solidify things. Obviously this whole thing depends on us getting back something decent for Fielder, which seems far from a sure thing at the moment. Either way, I wouldn't mind taking a flier on Correia and see what he can do.

In relation to his defense, experience and bat...I'd love to have Lee in a Brewer uniform. He was always the only Cub that I had an ounce of respect for.

The problem is do we want to spend money on Lee when we have players like Hart, McGehee or Gamel that can play 1b on the cheep?

I like Correia and wouldn't mind him in our rotation. I know Melvin was looking at him last year but couldn't get the deal done with SD. Too bad too...could have used him this year.

With LaRoche, Overbay, Berkman, and Huff all on the market and Gamel perhaps in the picture (and no not at 3rd base), why on earth would the Brewers go after another righthanded bat to replace the only lefty in their lineup

Last I checked the division rival Reds, Cards, and Cubs for the most part have righthanded starting pitching. Only Houston with Rodriguez and Happ, and Pittsburgh with Maholm and Burres have more than one lefty in their rotations.

I was about to bash Lee's play this season; but then looked up the numbers, and overall they aren't too bad. I still think I would have to pass. There just isn't much gas left in the tank, and he'll be 35 next season. I guess if he'd sign a one year deal for no more than $5 million, it wouldn't be horrible, though. This all assume Prince can be dealt for something worthwhile, too.

Correia seems like a pretty safe pickup. Would not mind seeing him signed at all.

The deal between the A's and Brewers for Casey would be interesting. What could we expect in return? I was under the impression that their starters were pretty good. I'm not sure if Oakland would give one up for Casey.

i think of Lee and i see a guy who's numbers are falling off pretty quickly, yet he's put up good numbers in the recent past. that says to me that he's going to be a guy that will demand pretty big money but won't put up the numbers that people will be expecting. i think i'd rather see someone like LaRoche or an internal candidate over Lee.

Narveson is already Washburn but with an upside and 1/5 the price.

Lee & LaRoche are both gold glove-quality 1B who would save tons of errors, which would mask some of McGahee & Weeks defensive deficiencies ....

on the other hand moving a Gamel or Hart to 1B would likely result in no better defense than we saw from Fielder.....

Lee was playing with a bad shoulder which hurt his power numbers..... need assurance that he's healthy ....LaRoche is the definition of a streak hitter; he always starts ultra-slow in April & into May but rebounds strongly after the all-star break ....LaRoche also strikes out a ton which doesn't fit in a lineup that already struggles manufacturing runs

The ONLY way that I would even consider Washburn is if he took a deal like Jeff Weaver did a few years back or Capuano last year. If he wants any guaranteed money and/or is unwilling to go to Nashville, forget it. If he makes the team out of spring training, fine, but giving him any money guaranteed is asinine (and so up Melvin's alley it's scaring me). I'd rather have Capuano any day of the week.

Correia on a 1 year deal makes perfect sense, as they tried to trade for him last year but could not get it done.

If Tim was going to predict a stopgap 1B, he should have at least made him a LH bat. Next year's 1B is probably already on the roster, or will come over in the Prince trade.
