if that is true, i'll be slightly disappointed but not upset. i think he will atleast play more of a national league style offense compared to Macha. I think Scioscia is a good manager and there are worse people he could learn from. I soured on Bobby V as the days wore on, but was still hoping for Cora.

Kind of embarrassing, but how do you pronounce "Roenicke"?

You don't have an Adam Wainwright. Easily the best gentlemen in all of sports. You don't have the amount of real good old American men like the Cardinals do. Holliday, Wainwright, Skip, Berkman those 4 guys are incredible people

I'd guess "RENN-eh-key." Note that I don't know for sure myself, so no need for embarrassment.

At least it lends itself to the word "Roenicked." http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/indifferent.gif

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Well, this is quite surprising giving all the talk that was centered around Valentine and Cora of late.

I have heard good things about Roenicke. Not sure if I'm excited, as I was basically pulling for Valentine. My guess is Valentine simply wanted too much money and the Brewers decided to move on.

Edit: Here's his mug so the haters can direct their anger.

I don't know much about Roenicke, but was just reading this interview of his from 2009. If anyone wants to read it, it's kind of interesting:

This part of it get's me excited since I really like Joe Maddon:

DL: You replaced Joe Maddon as the Angels’ bench coach. How similar are you and Joe?

RR: There are some similar things. There are some things that I also try to do the same way Joe did them. Joe is the best coach that I’ve been with in the big leagues—the best coach I’ve ever seen. A guy who has that kind of baseball intelligence and those kinds of baseball instincts, and great common sense, and a great sense of humor—he’s got all of the traits you want in a coach. So there are a lot of things that he does that I like, and that we’re similar at. Maybe I would have done it a little differently, but I saw him, and I said, "You know something, I like the way Joe did it and I’m going to do it that way.

I'm as shocked as everyone else, but I like the work that the Angels do and I look forward to the Brewers moving in a new direction. Based on Dale Sveum's comments and the Roenicke hire, I expect the 2011 Brewers to utilize their speed and focus on the fundamentals.

I'm looking forward to the press conference.

Adam McCalvy with further information:

On Tuesday, the Sun-Times surmised that the Brewers may have picked Roenicke because Valentine's price tag was too high. But the team source said financial considerations played "no role whatsoever" in Roenicke getting the job.

I'm underwhelmed. This is the least popular choice as far as creating fan excitement is concerned. The Brewers will have their work cut out for them selling season tickets this off-season. I'm not saying I don't like the choice. I think all four finalists are a better fit for the personnel than Macha was, so that should improve our fundamental chances of winning.

As far as getting more talent is concerned, that remains to be seen.

There really isn't much to base an opinion on with Roenicke, but I do like the way the Angels play, so I'll hope for success.

Bobby V would have been a sexy hire, but I think we should all withhold judgment on Roenicke until at least December.

This whole time I was thinking it was Gary Roenicke (former Oriole from the 80's). I guess this is his brother. I don't really remember him as much from his playing days.
