I'm sorry, the concern about things becoming to "comic-bookey/cartoony" is just kind of funny to me. I mean, the show started with a guy waking up from a coma to find the world overrun with zombies, who rides a horse into Atlanta, escapes from the massive zombie horde alive while covering himself in zombie parts and in the end, has fatefully joined the same group his family has.

Anyway, to address the concerns, without giving anything away, I wouldn't over-read the Michonne introduction. While both Michonne and the Governor are high profile characters, there are also characters that make sense in this new world.

I'd argue that the first paragraph isn't that different from most zombie movies. But, yeah, I get the point.

More to the point, I've heard how good The Governor and Michonne are for awhile. Season 3 better live up to the hype. I think the second half of Season 2 is the best the show has been since the pilot, but we've all given the show enough time to not excuse its shortcomings anymore.

Some of the writing is still terrible. Herschel and crew decide to defend their farm. Fine, but why didn't they take up up a position of advantage and pick off the zombies that way? Zombies can't climb. Instead, they stand at ground level and fire at the approaching walkers or drive in circles around the zombies and shoot from a moving vehicle. Also, just how many rounds did Herschel have in his shotgun? It takes time to reload a shotgun, but he was firing off shots repeatedly without stopping. Why did that kid stop the RV in the middle of a group of large zombies and make no effort to secure the door? Just too many stupid decisions.

On the positive side, I marked out when I saw Michonne. I'm guessing they haven't cast her role yet, hence never seeing her face. I wouldn't worry about the armless zombies. They don't amount to much.

So I can't read any posts here, but I watched first season on Netflix a few months back. I DVR'd the marathon that was on this weekend and have gotten half way through season two. I will be up to speed by episode two! Can't wait!!!

Last night's season opening episode was great!

Love the show without getting too deep in reviews. I view it as entertainment!!!!

Thumbs up from me!

Yeah, it was a good start. Albeit, they leaned on what they do well, conflict between people and zombies, with the character and dialogue work being on the light side. That's probably a smart move on their part, but obviously that can't be sustained every week on a budget. Still, giving them an objective (take the prison), obstacles to overcome (zombies), and complications (body armor wearing zombies) is good television. You could nitpick their tactics, but overall I think entertainment value trumps those nitpicks.

got to the premiere tonight. Man, quite a gore-fest but also some really good action and entertainment.

The end of the episode wasn't too much of a surprise but it was done really well.

I laughed out loud when there was the "DID YOU SEE THAT?" Moment when they took down the first Zombie with body armor.

I mean, yeah, really? That was an epiphany? Aim for where it's not wearing armor?

Interesting the direction they went with Lori. Last season we were all annoyed with her reaction to Shane's death and figured it was bad acting/writing. I think they even confirmed it was supposed to be surprise instead of anger towards Rick. It now appears they went with anger and Rick/Carl are basically done with her.

I'll give this to the showrunners, they're ruthless about cutting characters that don't work. Sometimes even redeeming said characters in the process, at least a little. They've got to do a better job of building the characters in the first place though or the trick is going to wear out its welcome in a hurry. At some point, it would be nice to invest in a couple of characters because you actually care what happens to them than out of some sense of obligation.

Something between a good and great episode last night.

Spoilers ahead.......

The Walkers became a threat again. They hadn't been recently, due to the unerring accuracy and ballistic deadliness of the little plinker handguns the crew has been carrying.

Like Robert said, both T-Dog and Lori were redeemed a bit. I like the "no more kid stuff" montage for Carl, right before the end. I would think that was a good indicator that he did what he had to do there. Maybe I'm wrong though.

I really hope that Singleton is leaving the show because of a schedule conflict. I'd hate to think they killed off the 'token black guy' just to replace him with another one. If that were the case, they should have just kept T-Dogg alive.

****Spoilers****

Finally caught up....wow, that last episode was a shocker. Once T-Dog was done I didn't think there was any way they'd kill off someone else. I figured he'd be the next to go. He had no reason to hang around - no love interest, didn't really contribute much to plot lines, etc. Great to see the return of Merle. You knew it was coming, just didn't know when. I'll be really interested to see how things play out when he meets up with the group again. As someone who never read the comics, can someone tell me what the deal is with the governor? Is he just a psycho path? I didn't quite get the "trophy" room with all the heads.

He is the definition of crazy. In the comics, he was running some sort of zombie gladiator arena, where the zombies were tied to poles and 2 guys fought in the middle of them. He had his zombie daughter chained up in his apartment and fed her body parts. I don't remember exactly, either its just the impression I got or if it was something he said, but it seemed like the heads were like a bank of tvs and the different heads were different channels.

Remember what Yoda said:

I really didn't understand the zombie head thing either. That was not in the comics. In one of the previous episodes, they made sure to spend extra time on the family photo featuring the Governor, his wife, and daughter. In addition, they showed the scientist doing research on the decapitated heads of Michonne's pet zombies, so I think at least one comic storyline involving the Governor will be covered in the show.

In the comics, the Governor committed a series of terrible acts towards Michonne. It was way too violent for television. Based on what we have seen so far, I think they will have some sort of confrontation.

I have one question about the last episode. Do we know for sure Carol is dead? They found her scarf, but I thought it was T-Dog's body being consumed by the walkers.

It's funny (or maybe sad) that I didn't know that short-haired lady's name was Carol even though I've watched every episode. Regardless, I didn't get any indication that she got killed by the walkers. I took it that T-Dog sacrificed himself for her and she got out unscathed.

Spoilers may be included below . . . .

pretty intense episode (I finally watched it last night.) And pretty grisly as well. The ending was kind of a let down as I was hoping Carl wouldn't pull the trigger and get eaten by a quickly turned mother. Or the baby would be a stillborn and turn inside the womb and eat it's way out. But I guess this was probably the best way. I don't watch the previous nor read the comic so I don't know what happens next. I'm excited to find out!

Was I the only one that wanted a still born baby that immediately turned into a walker? I think that would have been cool.

Yes it was.

So far they seem to taking a very long turn with The Governor and Michonne stories. They can't really make him as vile as he was in the comic no doubt, but still.

I was surprised by the Lori move, it was good drama and hopefully they don't waste it. As good as it was, it might have been done to early and they might miss a great opportunity with Rick as a result. In the comics, Lori does die eventually, but not now and not like this, but the reasons for it and how it happens, ends up really effecting Rick and making for some pretty heartbreaking moments with him. The way they did this, with Rick basically signaling to Lori the week before that he was done with her, and then killing her the next week, I wonder exactly how they'll have Rick deal with it.
