Yuku profile conversion update

As most of you know, Brewerfan has recommended against clicking on the

gift box in the navigation bar to convert your Yuku profiles. That

recommendation still stands for these reasons:

• The private
  message interface is poor and lacks basic features present in the
  current interface. Staff has said that issues with the PM interface will
  be addressed, but few specifics have been given.
• There
  have been various bugs affecting some conversions, especially with
  images stored in one's albums. Staff needs to intervene to manually fix
  these issues, and in some cases, manual fixes have been elusive.
• The "bitchslap"
  feature is still present. Staff previously told us that this feature
  would be removed, but they've recently backtracked on that. Given that
  we don't want that term used on the board, it makes sense that we don't
  want to see it in Yuku's interface. Think of it this way. If your church
  wanted to start a message board, this feature would automatically
  exclude Yuku.

At this point, staff is now using the term "soon"

to describe when mandatory conversions will start to occur. They're not

telling us when "soon" is, but they're still saying that we'll be given

some kind of notice in advance.

 

Also, Yuku has started

converting profiles that they deem as inactive. Unfortunately, there was

no notice before this started. I don't know how "inactive" is defined,

but I'd hope that logging in and browsing the board would be enough to

prevent that.

 

New members who've created their profiles on or

after May 12, 2010, have converted profiles. Links to instructions for

dealing with signatures and avatars have been included in the Usability FAQ.
