Journos trying to create a story, rather than report on it. Rosenthal even admitted that he'd been told the two sides hadn't talked at all, but wouldn't give it up.

I think I'll go watch some fiction that's more believable - like Buffy the Vampire Slayer or something...

Would anybody do Fielder straight up to Seattle for Pineda? I mean Boston gave up Casey Kelly and a few other prospects for 1 year of Gonzales... I hear from mlbtraderumors.com that Seattle is looking for a DH.
Robin Yount - “But what I'd really like to tell you is I never dreamed of being in the Hall of Fame. Standing here with all these great players was beyond any of my dreams.”

I normally really like MLB Network, but to say that this deal is good and works is just ridiculous. The Brewers have Axford who is coming off a fantastic rookie season and is cheap. Broxton is coming off a down year, will make a lot and is only under control for 1 more year.

I understand that a back-end bullpen arm is not a priority, and the Loney/Broxton trade would offer little in terms of value/control to the Brewers when we are one starting pitcher away. But why all the hostility towards Broxton? 2010 was not his year, but he has been one of the better power relievers for 4 seasons before that. I know you don't need two closers, but two closer quality relievers isn't such a bad thing. At 7 mil, I wouldnt be interested, but the I like the guy as a player. Plus, with Tauscher/Clifton getting up there in age, maybe he could double on the o-line?

This would be ideal in my mind if the Brewers could swing Fielder and ???? for Smoak and Pineda. If not Seattle then Baltimore is dying to make a splash and they are also looking for a 1B, and they have multiple young SPers that they may part with.

like Buffy the Vampire Slayer or something...

At least then you would get to look at Sarah Michelle Gellar, Alyson Hannigan and Michelle Trachtenberg.

Don't forget Eliza Dushku...

...and it's conversations like these that keep me coming back to this forum.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif

I just saw that on MLB Network, too. They don't follow the Brewers and don't realize we have a closer.
The funny thing is, Axford was actually in the studio at the highlight desk with the crew that does the nightly show towards the end of the season. They talked to him about the Brewers and his season and had him comment on some games that were in progress.

This Broxton/Loney thing could make sense if we then peddled Axford in a Garza or Greinke type deal. The only other "positive" I could possibly see in getting Broxton and Loney is the possibility that they could yield us four compensation picks as opposed to just two for Prince. Just trying to find some type of positives if this move ended up happening...

I'll eat my shoe if this trade happens. Don't worry about it. Someone made it up and they decided to run with it for some reason. It's irritating that not one of those "baseball guys" realized that this trade doesn't make a single bit of sense.

I'm a big fan of MLB.com /MLB Network, maybe because I hate ESPN, so I was disappointed with there poor analysis of this offer....

an outside-the-box thought: If this trade happened would the Brewers consider making Axford a starter?

I need to pimp myself out at the Winter Meetings as a rumor spreader. I'd do it covertly. Like leave a notebook on a table with big note on the first page reading, "BREWERS/DODGERS TALK FIELDER FOR LONEY AND BROXTON. $ WORK."

I'd get paid when my rumor hits the media.

Somebody on one of the MJS blogs is claiming Canadian tv is reporting talks have started between Mil and Bal regarding a deal of prospects headed here for Fielder headed by Tillman. Sounds like total bs, but just thought I'd mention it...
Actually this one makes sense to me from the Brewers perspective - which probably means, as you say, that it's BS.

Tillman is a young pitcher with a great upside, and if the Brewers are serious about getting Greinke then he's another piece they could add to their offer. Fielder won't interest the Royals at all, but Tillman is just the sort of piece they're supposedly looking for in a package. Plus it gets Fielder out of the NL. Even if you don't get Greinke, it's not a bad starting point for negotiations.

I'd say that I don't see what Baltimore gets out of it, as they're unlikely to contend next year and would have a hard time keeping Fielder after that, but then again they just traded for a starting third baseman who makes Russell Branyan look like a Hall of Fame player, so who knows?

TH's summary of the O's rumor: So, the Brewers and Orioles have talked about Fielder, but it didn't advance to discussing a deal.
Just a general question - if they didn't talk about a Fielder deal then what did they talk about?

McPhail: "I really like Prince. He has that sweet tattoo on his neck."
Melvin: "It looks really good with my mustache when we take pictures together."

That part of GM talks always has me confused.
