Got threatened with a gun today...

Yeah but that was in Seattle.

I personally know a guy that was given a jaywalking ticket in Milwaukee for crossing the street outside of a crosswalk. It was on Water St and he was going from Bar Louie to McGillicuddy's. His wife took a picture of the cop after he wrote up the citation. It's illegal.

Not to keep going on this, but did the ticket actually say "jaywalking"? I bet it didn't. I'll tell you what. If you can find the actual citation, or maybe have some way of looking up the violation, give me the ordinance number or state statute that was listed on it and I'll see if I can find what that violation says.

Adam...any updates?

adamb100[/b]]I called the officer twice and kept getting kicked to a voice mail. He hasnt called back either.
Sometimes if you want something done, you gotta do it yourself.

Are you suggesting dressing up as a bat and fighting crime? Because that would be pretty awesome.

In WI it's not jaywalking if you are outside the crosswalk UNLESS the pedestrian fails to yield the right of way to traffic. See Wis. Stat. 346.25.

Old Milwaukee DA E. Michael McCann taught me that. He was tagged with jaywalking for crossing in the crosswalk. If he had been outside the crosswalk, no ticket. Instead, he was ticketed for violation of 346.23

For more fun with WI pedestrian law, check out WI Stats 346.23, and 346.24. Also 49 Wis. 2d 415.

"Crossing at place other than crosswalk. Every pedestrian or bicyclist crossing a roadway at any point other than within a marked or unmarked crosswalk shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles upon the roadway."

Which leaves A LOT of room for interpretation. A car could be 500 feet away and a cop could decide that you didn't yield right of way.

Anyway, sorry to go so far off topic.

Well today marked the one week anniversary of this event. I *think* I saw the kid there today, I tried to avoid him at all costs. He did have an iPod Touch on him though, he was using it.
This may be a little far fetched but what if there was a way that you could turn his "little" crime into a much more serious one? Or at least monitor him until he does it himself. Does he still have the ability to send text messages? If so, can you still read them? For some reason, your issue makes me think of this video:

Anyways, glad to hear you are OK and I hope the police get this clown.

I admit, I'd be tempted to go up to him and demand my property back. Granted, it's probably not an intelligent thing to do, but not knowing the size of you and him, I'd just assume he'd give it up, or assume fisticuffs may take place.

Not knowing the size of him and adam is pretty irrelevant if he has a gun.

Or... the kid is known to carry a gun, which is what started this whole thing. Grow a spine? Or maybe get shot in your spine.
Yeah. I see what you're saying, Invader, but between the gun possibility and Adam's not-100% certainty that it was the guy he saw, I think it might be more prudent than spineless to not confront.

It would be sweet if you could use texting technology to mess up his life a little, though.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Yeah, exactly..what are people not understanding about the whole "threatened by a GUN" thing? A GUN! Given the risk-reward of this situation I would not blame anyone for not confronting the guy(kid). Sometimes you have to know when to keep your pride in check.

Not to nitpick, but we suspect he's carrying a gun. By the original story, it sounds like he was told "I have a gun", I don't know going back and reading that the gun was ever shown.

Not that that changes a whole lot. But it does seem that there should be some recourse here. The guy goes to a known spot.

I wouldn't want to call his bluff about the gun and be wrong. Yes the guy goes to a known spot (assuming it is the same guy). Now what? It's already been discussed that the police are not going to spend a lot of time on this.

Also, let's say that Adam does confront him and the guy actually gives the Ipod back (if the guy held him up with the threat of a gun, I don't see how this happens). Does is really end there? Maybe he comes back with 2 or 3 of his friends. Without help from law enforcement officials, not sure what recourse there is to be had here. Even if the police do step in and question him, what do you think will happen? Adam would then have to worry about revenge - he certainly could not go to that bus stop any longer and would possibly have to think about avoiding that neighborhood all together.

Which is why I said it was nitpicking. I don't disagree with the premise, just the terminology.

Were it me, and I don't hold everyone to my standards, I'd be angry enough that I'd confront the guy. I do NOT consider someone that wouldn't do so any less a person.

I'll jump on the bandwagon that confronting him would without a doubt be a bit asinine.

If this guy is dumb enough to use a stolen iPod in the same place he stole it, you can probably be assured that he'll be behind bars pretty soon if he doesn't turn his life around. You don't have any more of those great texts for us, do you?

I am surprised that the MPD has such hard evidence and the ability to track this guy down yet they are not doing anything about it. I would write a letter to the District Attorney, your local senator or congressman, or any ranking official who has responsibility to take action on such matters. If the MPD has a directive from a any such persons they will be more likely to do something about it. Keep a letter brief and to the point, include the threat, and the evidence that you have.

Correct, but Adam also noted that at least one person from his neighborhood confirmed that they knew the kid did, in fact, have a gun.

He didnt say he had one, he just said he'll shoot me. There were a few others witnessing it and this other guy I guess knew him and said he did have a gun (and that he goes to South Division High School).

Nothing confirmed, but that's good enough for me to stay away.

Just reading this, glad you aren't hurt. Stuff like this really gets my blood boiling. You seem to have quite a bit of information about the guy but from personal experience, I wouldn't expect from the MPD. Hope I'm wrong and you can find out who this punk is and put him where he belongs.

Look, I hate when stuff like this happens to good people. So if you know where this guy is pm me and I will get it back. He may be armed but if he was he would have showed it. Thats what these kids do. they use scare tactics. And guess what they work, on some people. Not this guy here. No im no internet tough guy either. Im an ordinary guy that dont take crap from these kids today.
