Rangers New TV Deal

SZBrewerFan

MLB Trade Rumors is reporting that the Texas Rangers just signed a 20 year extension with Fox Sports South which is worth $3 Billion. That comes to $150,000,000 per year....which is mind blowing to me. I know they are a far larger market than the Brewers, but how does that compare to our current deal? Does anyone know the details of our deal?

Barry Horn of the Dallas Morning News is painting a markedly different -- but still quite sanguine -- picture, reporting that the extension will dispense approximately $1.5-1.6 billion to the Rangers over that same 20 years, with a portion of that total ($70-80 million) being payable in the form of a up-front bonus after the 2010 season. The extension itself will not kick in until after the Rangers' existing television deal expires in 2014, which leaves that post-2010 bonus as the only significant impact on team revenues over the next four years.

Assuming 3% inflation, this is equivalent to about $50 million per year in today's dollar, for the years 2015-2034.
