The Office Season 7

I was fighting off tears
I'm not intending to single you out, as I see this throughout the interwebs. Don't fight it, just let it go. You'll feel much better.

On topic, tremendous episode. Not much in the funny department (Creed coming out of the lady's restroom stall, Andy's reaction as he lost one of the top ten clients within 3 minutes of Michael giving up the names, Andy's non-verbal reactions as D'Angelo presents Dunder Mifflin's case during the sales presentation), but it did the job.

How did Pam get past the security checkpoint at the airport? (not to mention the camera crew.) Did she "buy a ticket" just to say goodbye to Michael?

I think Dwight summed up the rest of the season/series for us all (unless they get jiggy with it and fool us all) . . . ."uh oh."

I was thinking the same thing. Also, right after Michael went through security he put on his shoes and then he took out the microphone. He would have had to take the microphone out when he went through the metal detectors. I believe it was in his inside coat pocket and you have to remove your coat and run that through the scanner so maybe that's what happened.

Overall, I thought it was a good send-off for Michael.

Not the first time it has happened. I believe in a past interview Creed said he only used the ladies room. I liked that Micheal "tripled up" with Gabe, Meredith and Creed.

I was discussing the episode with a friend and I thought there were some important people they left out. David Wallace, the security guard (can't remember his name), Tod Packer, Kathy Bates character and Jan. Maybe these will be in deleted scenes but these are some important people to the series that Michael should have said goodbye to.

David Wallace, Todd Packer, and Jan all were given proper send-offs imo.

I think it was last yr where Wallace was a wreck and basically living off his wife. Michael finally saw Packer for his true colors and sent him to a non-existent job in Florida (lol, so absurd) after he's offended by what he said about Holly. And then there was the episode where Michael confronts all of his ex-gf's and they pretty much wrote Jan out of the show for good then.

when i finished watching, all i could think was "What was the point of that?" actually, what's the point of Ferrell in the first place? it's like they're already digging to boost viewership before Michael had even left.

i don't care about Will Ferrell. why bother expanding the nature of his character when he's just on for four episodes?

this whole season as been odd, especially when last season was just awful. the episodes before they started the Michael-leaving storyline were terrible, then the Michael-leaving episodes were great. now they just went back to their purpose-free writing again.

was this the Community thread, too? i'm pretty sure i saw a good episode, but i was only capable of concentrating on Annie and the rest of the characters just seemed to mumble and get in the way of Annie. something something something Annie, something Annie, Annie, Annie something something.

Count me in the camp that doesn't really care for Will Farrell on the office. I don't remember much of last week's episode. I think I laughed once at Kevin with his hole 'inner circle that doesn't exist' thing.

And while I've always felt they'd be best just ending the series after Michael left, am I the only one that thinks Darryl would be an interesting replacement?

So I'm supposed to believe an attention whoring person like Michael isn't gonna tell any of his employees he's actually leaving a day early? I dunno, something about just seemed very abrupt and I don't like the send off they gave him.

The D'Angelo character is absolutely terrible. I know it's become hip to hate on anything Ferrell has touched the last five years, but there's no way this is his fault. He's been fine. It's the writing for the character that has been just awful.

I believe it, because it seems Michael did a complete 180° as soon as he landed Holly. There was no need for him to try his absolute hardest to get people to like him when the most important person likes him for who he is. I like how they sent him off. I like that Jim figured out, and I liked the scene with Jim. The most moving scene for me was when Michael was breaking down and he called Holly and this put him at ease. Very touching.

I agree about your take on D'Angelo. One of the worst characters in TV history IMO. Perfect example = The cake scene at the end.

Community could turn into nothing but a 22-minute loop of Alison Brie in a low-cut top running in slow motion....and it would be the best show on television. That they continue to dress the show up in clever-and-elaborate plots that riff off other TV/film genres makes it my favorite show on TV.

I got a few episodes behind in watching The Office, but caught up over the weekend. I'm more than a bit concerned that the show still hasn't figured out how to cope with Carrell leaving; the Will Ferrell arc (which has to be about done after that....right?) did not add anything to the ensemble....and feels like it's just stretching out the question of who will take over as the full-time boss. Knowing some of the stunt casting that is in place for the end of the season does not help this concern, either.

I'm not sure why I even open this thread. It depresses me a little.

Remember when comedy use to be Three's company, Happy Days, Full House, etc?? Today's TV comedy's, even the bad ones, are soooo much better. I think we are going to come to a point where people are so jaded, cynical, and hyper critical that nothing will be funny and comedy will completely disappear.

I still think "The Office" if very funny. I just try to sit, relax, and enjoy without being overly analytical about it. It's a sit-com.

I think some episodes of The Office are very funny. It's just, last week's episode sucked prairie dogs. I sat blankly in front of the screen for 22 minutes, and then had to take a bath due to the crap being slung at me during that time.

It doesn't help that my opinion of Will Ferrell isn't very high.

But it's not just a sit-com. It's always had so much more depth than just about any comedy on TV. There's times when the characters have literally moved me to tears more than any drama ever has. Perfect example - Jim and Pam on casino night in season 2. And the final moments of last week's "goodbye Michael." This show has been so important in raising the bar for TV sitcoms, it's sad to see it settling for so much less than what it's capable of. I don't think the show is doomed because it's lost its star. The writers and cast are talented enough that they should be able to keep it fresh, and turn this experience into something meaningful. I know it was only one episode, but it was a step in the wrong direction. This show has never been purely funny enough to rely on cheap laughs alone, but that's what we got last Thursday.

Haven't watched the Finale yet but I do have to say that seeing Michael leave was a tough one for me. I've been in love with this show since the first episode. I'm really sad to see Michael go because his character made me laugh out loud multiple times an episode. You always cheered for him even though he always shot himself in the foot.

To comment on the earlier discussion, why people were sad to see him go. They might not have liked him before, but you could always see he cared for them. He might have got them in a lot of issues but he always got them out of it. I think it was a realistic realization that, he was a great boss and really loved all his employees (except maybe Toby).

I thought a lot about all the old episodes and how much Michael Scarn made me laugh......pretty amazing. It sucks he won't be around but I think there are enough personalities on the show to keep it going.

I thought it was a good season ender. Better than the Will Ferrell episodes for sure. I didn't expect them to reveal the new boss, so I wasn't dissapointed. Textbook cliffhanger for TV shows, I fully expected then to leave it hanging. I wonder if they even know who the new boss will be next? I doubt they've started writing much for next season yet?

Rumor is right now its Catherine Tate.

I'm not thrilled by that choice.

She wasn't the slightest bit funny, but that seems to be par for the course on the Brits who try to make it big over here.

I thought the regulars played off James Spader very well, so there's that.

I thought the episode was very funny, but I seem to to be alone in that (at least on this board, another board I post on liked this episode & season in general). Kevin was pretty cringeworthy. He's a guy who really shouldn't have more than one or two scenes a week. The alphabet scene....ugh.

I think Michael was dragging the show down for a couple yrs now because the writers had no idea how to write him realistically. Maybe every 5 or so episodes he'd be funny. I'll probably check out the first few episodes next year.
