Anyone using their computer as a television?

twobrewers
Apple tv will be 720p also. They'll wait till gen 2 or 3 to upgrade it to 1080p

What is with companies coming out with these "first gen" systems that seem to be somewhat technologically crippled? 1080p isn't really very new anymore. I have a hard time believing it would be that much more expensive or difficult to implement.

Until Netflix or Hulu actually streams in HD there won't be much demand. And the people with true 1080p videos in digital format likely have a media server set up anyway. Yeah its probably like $3 per unit difference but until there is a true need it won't happen. Keep in mind most TVs aren't 1080p anyway.

On a related note, does anyone know if there is such a thing as a monitor A/B switch? I.e. you have two sources going into the same laptop (say, a laptop and a desktop) and can toggle between the two sources for what shows up on the screen?

Apparently my company is going to give us 24" widescreen monitors to connect to our laptops for home use, and I was considering getting one for my personal desktop but if I can connect both to it that would be ideal.

You can do that with a KVM switch. You can even share a keyboard and mouse between the two computers.

SportsNation is inane, useless and annoying, yet i watch the show every chance i get, too. wonder why......

there exists a certain illegal website that streams espn most of the day, and would maybe have the show. protocol prevents me from saying more.--i don't want to break the rules or anger Disney. you wouldn't like Disney when it's angry.

I am resurrecting this thread to ask... anyone know a way for me to watch Sportsnation online? I have a Michelle Beadle addiction and only have basic cable for the next couple of months.

On a related note, Comcast has a package where you get internet and TV plus a supplemental sports package that includes Big 10 Network and all ESPN networks in HD with taxes and everything included for $78.50/month. That's not bad at all considering that the internet speed will probably run $39/mo alone, and is about as close as a sports fan is going to get to being able to pick their own channels. This is your internet speed (on a Saturday morning - probably slower from 7-10PM on weeknights):

I have begun to notice some limitations to using Netflix for TV. One thing that has bothered me is how slowly some of the seasons get released for instant view. I have been watching both The Tudors and Top Gear lately. There are only 2 seasons of The Tudors online right now, and I'm almost done with season 2. Also, there are only 4 seasons of Top Gear (9-12), and series 9 only has 5 episodes available on instant view. I don't understand the rhyme or reason of seasons being added, or why some seasons are incomplete.
