Brewers recall Gamel, Villanueva, and Jeffress [Latest: Gamel needs toe surgery]

And That
There's been no indication that Gamel will be traded this off-season. None.

Macha said it is likely Gamel breaks into the big leagues as a regular player in the outfield, but with the two corner spots locked up long term, it could take one of them or Gamel being moved before that happens.

“My assessment says that’s where he’s going to wind up, in the outfield,” Macha said. “If you take a look at our club right now, we have three centerfielders and our rightfielder and leftfielder are both signed long term. So who knows what happens as things move forward.

“We might get in the winter and somebody might be interested in somebody and it’s a deal that fits both clubs and somebody goes. It might not be Gamel. It might be one of the other guys.”

Well it's not going to be Braun. So it's either Gamel or Hart.

Not sure why this is in blue.

Because we all know people without emotions (like Macha) don't laugh.

Well the laughing part should be in blue then. The rest sounds like what they are actually doing though.

I blame Wang.

Come on...

In reality, it sounds more and more like the team is viewing Gamel as a corner outfielder and not a corner infielder. This would explain why they haven't been in a rush to get him starts at third base. That and the fact that McGehee has been playing well.

The bottom line is they need to get Gamel playing time and they haven't. He is either going to be a big part of the future or he is going to be traded. Other than his injury he was MLB ready this year. The organization has mishandled and has continued to mishandle him for over a year now. None of these games mean anything to us. We have had 7 games where the game meant nothing to either team and Gamel has all of 2 starts. One was only because Fielder couldn't play.

Back before the rumored mid season trades of Hart or Fielder I mentioned that I'm not comfortable assuming we can just pencil Gamel into the Brewer line up. Several posters jumped down my throat about what a great player he was. I'm still waiting for him to prove it at this level. That sweet swing isn't connecting much.

It connected plenty at AAA. One thing that no one should worry about is whether or not Gamel will hit at the big-league level. Not exactly easy to see the ball, hit the ball when you get an at-bat every other day or so. Kind of nice to see Macha using Mat a bit more lately, if only as a pinch-hitter. He's gotten one PA in each of the past 5 games.

Gamel can hit like crazy, when he is getting 4 PA's per day on a consistent basis. That is something he has not had this season during his September callup or in 2009 when he was up. I just hope in 2011 he can come in and prove it to any of the doubters out there. And personally I don't care if it while he is playing 3B, 1B or OF. I just want to see him hit.

We have as much evidence to say Gamel has shot himself in the foot as to say the organization mishandled him....maybe more.

How so? A couple of JS blogs that were poorly written/slanted?

I get Gamel had to mature a bit, but I don't think he shot himself in the foot. It's not like he's thrown a bat at an umpire or anything else.

He has really shot himself in the foot by putting in extra time in the OF...if you're going to knock him for JS blog articles you also have to praise him as well.

I just think there isn't a 'plan'. My guess is the Brewers didn't know what Casey would do this year and he played well. Now they have to make a decision to either move someone to 1B or trade Gamel.

Haudricourt says that it's something that's been bothering him all year, but you have to wonder if getting hit by that pitch had anything to do with it. He was pulled for a pinch-runner after that and has only had 1 appearance as a pinch hitter after that. Seems weird that they would have him do outfield work if the toe was indeed bothering him all year.

Rough year overall for Mat, but hopefully he'll be 100% by spring.

If Melvin hadn't told Macha that Gamel was having the surgery, do you think Macha would have noticed that he wasn't there?

More stats on Gamel's production thus far. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see him in the mix. I just haven't seen it at the big league level.

So about league average in his first MLB 150ish ABs. I like those numbers a lot.

Gamel has been a "streak" hitter quite a bit in the minors. I think those numbers will get better with regular playing time

I look at Gamel and see Adam LaRoche, another notorious lefthanded hitting streak hitter with a similar stroke. I would suspect he'd put up numbers similar to what LaRoche does over the course of a full season.
