I miss TheCrew07 (football coach, right?). I'm excited for TC07's return, though, as I'm sure he (?) will have a lot to say about our MiLB system.

Excited for Wily tonight. His season has been great, but I would love to see a 7 IP 10 K game from him.

On another note, I noticed Hunter Morris played some LF, and had an assist, last night. That tells me that the organization sees him and Dennis as rough equals when it comes to their futures. I think that is about right.

Holy Helena! Would love for Miller to be solid again tonight.

Edit: Btw, Wily = Willie, correct?

tedaldtada29, why be so impolite? It's a valid question if someone knows an answer. The reality--it would seem--is that he's not comfortable in the OF or at catcher, so the Brewers are at least letting him get in his time at DH. He's come around offensively lately though...so that's good.

I think your reading a little to much into the tone of the post DHonks. I answered the question, stated the obvious, then asked for the opinion of the guy with the question. Don't you think if anyone here knew the answer, it would be old news by now? The question is so broad in scope, that idk how anyone could answer that anyways.

With that said (I probably should have just shut up), I am sorry for coming off condescending. I enjoy being a part of this community, and I would like to do as little to jepordize that I as I can.

I understand, I just love the Minor league forum and don't want it to be as condescending as the MLB one can be. This is usually about optimism and debate, so let's move on and keep things that way

on another note, how excited would we be if Carlos George could walk???

Haha, yea, or if he could field his position. Carlos is still young, so he could still mature impressivly. I'm willing to give him another 3-4 years to try.

Last time Ichecked the box, Fredrickson seems to have nasty stuff tonight, but the nastiness has still been attached to some wildness.

Final: Kane County 8, @Wisconsin 4

Cougars push Rattlers' playoff hopes to the edge

Chris Mehring/Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

GRAND CHUTE, WI – Leonardo Gil and the Kane County Cougars put a serious dent into the playoff hopes of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Saturday night. Gil drove in four runs to lead the Cougars to an 8-4 win in the first game of an important four game series at Time Warner Cable Field. The Rattlers entered play 3-1/2 games behind the Cougars in the Wild Card race in the Midwest League’s Western Division, but Kane County cashed in on five of eight walks by Wisconsin pitchers to drop the Rattlers farther behind them in the standings.

Wisconsin (55-74 overall, 29-32 second half) got on the board right away. Cutter Dykstra singled to start the bottom of the first. Scooter Gennett followed with an RBI double. Gennett was out trying to stretch his hit into a triple, but the Rattlers were up 1-0.

The Cougars (65-64, 33-27) tied the game in the third inning. Wisconsin starting pitcher Del Howell retired the first two hitters of the inning, but issued a walk to Myrio Richard. Gil was next and he doubled off the wall in left-center to drive in Richard.

Kane County took advantage of a pair of walks to start the top of the fifth inning. Mitch LeVier tried to move the runners along with a sacrifice bunt, but reached on a single when there was some miscommunication by the defense. Gil drove in the go ahead run with a sacrifice fly to right. After a single reloaded the bases, Rashun Dixon singled in a run and the Cougars had a 3-1 lead.

Wisconsin rallied for a run – with a little help from the Cougars – in the bottom of the fifth. D’Vontrey Richardson singled to start the inning. He went all the way around to third base on an errant pickoff throw by Joseph. An RBI grounder by Austin Stockfisch scored Richardson and Wisconsin was only down a run.

But, the Cougars answered with three runs in the top of the fifth inning. Jose Crisotomo started the inning with a triple. The next two batters drew walks to load the bases. LeVier singled in two runs and Gil knocked in another run to give Kane County a 6-2 lead.

The Rattlers gave Kane County a run in the top of the seventh inning. Conner Crumbliss doubled with two outs. Tyreace House was at the plate. After a pitch home, Stockfisch threw past Adrian Rosario and the ball was loose on the infield. Crumbliss took off for third base and would score when Gennett’s throw to third was wild.

Gil added another run to Kane County’s total with a solo homer in the top of the eighth.

Wisconsin attempted to rally in the bottom of the eighth inning as they had runners at the corners with no outs. The Rattlers got a pair of runs in the inning on sacrifice flies by Kentrail Davis and Khris Davis to cut the deficit to 8-4. But, the Rattlers got no closer.

The loss put a serious dent into the playoff hopes of the Timber Rattler. Kane County now leads Wisconsin by 4-1/2 games for the Second Half Western Division Wild Card. Plus, Beloit and Peoria, the two teams directly in front of Wisconsin in the standings also won on Saturday night.

Game two of the series is Sunday afternoon at 1:05pm. Damon Krestalude (2-9, 7.29) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Wisconsin. Kane County plans on Chris Mederos (6-5, 2.63) as their starting pitcher.

The first 1,000 fans into the ballpark before the game will receive a bobblehead featuring Fang T. Rattler and Bernie Brewer lounging on beach chairs. Fans may play catch on the field before the game and participate in a postgame autograph session.

There is also a special live postgame auction on the final Brewers Sunday presented by 107.5, The Fan. The special Brewers-themed Timber Rattlers jerseys will be up for bid after the game.

If you can’t make it out to Time Warner Cable Field on Sunday, you may tune into the game broadcast on AM1280, WNAM. The Miller Lite Pregame Show kicks off the action at 12:45pm.

Wisconsin box score

Howell really struggled with his control: 4.1 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 6 BB, 3 K, 7/3 GO/AO. Rosario, who has generally been pretty good, allowed four runs in 2.2 innings. Dykstra was on three times with two singles and a walk, and Gennett added a single to go with his double. Both Davises drew matching walked to go with their matching sac flies, and Khris also singled. Gennett committed an error and Richardson threw a runner out at home.

Wisconsin play-by-play

Rosario ultimately struggled, but he did do a good job after inheriting a bases-loaded mess from Howell:

Kane County Top of the 5th
  • Conner Crumbliss walks.
  • Tyreace House walks. Conner Crumbliss to 2nd.

Sounds top Zephyrs in front of packed house on Saturday

Nashville Sounds

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds beat the New Orleans Zephyrs, 5-3, on Saturday evening in front of 8,104 fans at Greer Stadium in the fourth game of a five-game series.

Joe Koshansky extended his hitting streak to a season-high eight games on the night, as the slugger knocked a two-run homer in the second inning. Catcher Martin Maldonado also added two hits with a solo shot in the same inning.

With the win, Nashville (71-63) moved to 5.5 games behind the first place Iowa Cubs in the PCL Northern Division.

New Orleans put the first run on the board in the top of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead as Sounds starter Sam Narron allowed four consecutive two-out singles.

The Sounds quickly went ahead at 3-1 in the next frame with two homers. Brendan Katin hit a leadoff single and scored on Koshansky's two-run home run down the right field line. The home run was Koshansky's team-leading 23rd home run and 72nd RBI. After Jorge Sosa struck out the next two Sounds in the inning, Maldonado crushed a solo shot off the Vanderbilt Sports Medicine sign over the left field wall for the Club's third run, his sixth of the season.

New Orleans trimmed the lead to one run in the top of the fourth inning. After Danny Richar doubled, catcher Neil Wilson singled home the New Orleans second baseman for the first run.

Reliever Scott Strickland came into the game into the game in the sixth for the Zephyrs and gave up two runs to extend Nashville's lead to three runs. After Mat Gamel crushed a double off the wall in right center and Koshansky being hit on a 3-0 pitch, Luis Cruz smacked a two-run double off the wall in center to plate both runners. Cruz's double was his team-leading 29th two-bagger of the season.

Matching the team-lead in his ninth quality start and the win, Narron (9-7) gave up two runs while scattering eight hits with three strikeouts in six innings pitched. David Johnson added two scoreless innings while fanning two and walking one. Chris Smith gave up a solo homer in the ninth inning to Neil Wilson, but picked up his PCL-leading 24th save.

In a spot start for New Orleans, Sosa (5-4) took the loss after allowing three runs on four hits in five innings pitched for the Zephyrs.

Sounds outfielder Adam Stern snapped a 10-game hitting streak after going 0-for-4 on the night. Stern's streak was Nashville's seventh double-digit hit streak and the club's longest active on the team.

New Orleans third baseman Brian Barden extended his hitting streak to a team-leading 13 games, while right fielder Scott Cousins went hitless to snap his 11-game hit streak.

The Sounds and Zephyrs will wrap up their five-game series with tomorrow's 6:35 pm CT finale at Greer Stadium, the last home game of the regular season. Right-hander Josh Butler (4-1, 5.97) will start for Nashville against New Orleans righty 1-1, 4.94).

Clearwater's big inning sinks BC
Frank Longbardo/Brevard County Manatees

VIERA, Fla. - A seven-run rally by the Clearwater Threshers topped off by a grand slam from Derrick Mitchell, all but eliminated the Brevard County Manatees from playoff contention as the Manatees fell 11-8 on Saturday night in front of 2,535 at Space Coast Stadium.

Brevard County (61-71 overall, 34-29 second half) jumped out to an early 7-1 lead, including a five-run fourth that was highlighted by a three-run double by Sean Halton. But the bullpen couldn't hold it as Trey Watten allowed three runs and Corey Frerichs allowed four in the eighth - without recording a single out.

Darren Byrd started on the mound for the Manatees and went 5 1/3 innings and allowed four runs (two earned) on six hits, while striking out one Clearwater (64-67, 27-34) hitter.

Matt Cline went 3-for-4 with a run scored, while Josh Prince, Halton and Brock Kjeldgaard each picked up two hits. Halton drove in four runs and Angel Salome drove in two. Salome was ejected in the sixth inning for arguing a called third strike call.

With the Manatees loss - its fourth straight - and a win by the Tampa Yankees, Brevard County is now 6 1/2 games out of first place with seven games to play.

The 2010 regular season home schedule will conclude with the series finale against the Threshers beginning at 1:05 p.m. Cody Scarpetta (7-11, 3.80 ERA) is scheduled to start on the hill for Brevard County.

Final: Helena 9, @Idaho Falls 1

Helena box score

The Brewers' bats stayed hot, and Evan Frederickson was wild but effective. The H-Crew got seven runs between the 6th & 7th innings to blow the game open. Frederickson walked six and had two wild pitches in six innings but also fanned six and allowed just one hit and only an unearned run. Brent Dean homered for the second straight game, a three-run shot, Brandon Sizemore and Carlos George both had two hits, and Shea Vucinich singled and walked twice. Johnny Dishon tripled and was hit by a pitch for the 8th time already.

Helena play-by-play

Frederickson walked a batter in every inning but the 1st, which is actually a good thing, because it means he didn't walk three or four in an inning as he's prone to doing.

The two big innings:

Helena Top of the 6th
  • Michael Walker singles on a ground ball to right fielder Reggie Taylor.
  • Brent Dean pops out to second baseman Yowill Espinal.
  • Brandon Sizemore singles on a ground ball to left fielder Jovan Pickett. Michael Walker to 2nd.
  • Robert Garvey triples (3) on a fly ball to right fielder Reggie Taylor. Michael Walker scores. Brandon Sizemore scores.
  • John Dishon hit by pitch.
  • Pitcher Change: Jordan Roualdes replaces Chad Blauer.
  • Carlos George singles on a ground ball to left fielder Jovan Pickett. Robert Garvey scores. John Dishon to 2nd.
  • With
