I followed Mass' suggestion to buy MiLB's TV package for the month to get the Chukars' feed this coming weekend. Being the dork that I am, I already mapped out the projected pitching matchups (assuming recent trends hold) for the Idaho Falls series for those that also want to see what these arms are all about:

Fri: Frederickson/Nelson

Sat: Miller

Sun: Ross

Mon: Cravy/Thornburg

Actually colbyjack, courtesy of Steve Wendt, here's your rotation for the "TV" series. Remember folks, these games will be available both live and archived for subscribers --

We will go with the following rotation in Idaho Falls Friday-Monday.

Wawrzasek

Frederickson

Miller

Ross

Thanks Mass (and Steve). When I saw Cravy's name listed as the starter today I figured everyone would be bumped back a day. I still look forward to catching Miller, although Thornburg was the one I really wanted to get a read on.

Thanks also to Chris for providing the probable pitching rotation for the upcoming home series for the T-Rats. I hope to make it Tuesday for Odorizzi's next start.

Packers game tonight Jim...hopefully it's not too quiet around here despite the lack of a Brewers game http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif.

Lawrie with a BB and then his 30th steal. Impressive, but it will be interesting to see how that translates to the bigs. Does Lawrie have more Kirby Puckett in him then Kentrail Davis? Who else does he remind you of? I m curious, because I can't think of a good comp. off the top of my head. He is very, very strong, confident/cocky, hitting oriented, thickly built, but has some plus-ish speed. He is what Prince would be if he weighed a flat 200 http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif.

Gennett with a three bagger. Making a strong case for MWL POY unless Trout just cannot be ignored. Hunter Morris with a dinger.

Final (game one): @AZL Brewers 4, AZL Indians 3

AZL Brewers box score

As MH mentioned, this was actually at the Indians' complex and was the completion of a suspended game from the 17th. Brooks Hall came on as the "starter" and went 3.1 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and fanning and impressive six while walking just one. R.J. Johnson had earlier (like nine days ago earlier) also posted a nice line, striking out three and walking one over three scoreless, hitless frames. The Indians got two in the 8th off Hall to make it close, but Jose Sanchez shut them down in the 9th. Tyler Roberts doubled and walked, and Nick Shaw and Kyle Dhanani each had two hits.

AZL Brewers play-by-play

The Baby Brewers rode a three-run 6th to victory:

AZL Brewers Bottom of the 6th
  • Kenneth Allison walks.
  • Jason Rogers walks. Kenneth Allison to 2nd.
  • Thomas Mittelstaedt doubles (8) on a fly ball to center fielder Henry Dunn. Kenneth Allison scores. Jason Rogers scores.
  • Pitcher Change: Orlando Pereira replaces Enriquez Pacheco.
  • Tyler Roberts walks.
  • Kyle
Dhanani out on a sacrifice bunt, pitcher Orlando Pereira to first
baseman Andrew Kinney. Thomas Mittelstaedt to 3rd. Tyler Roberts
    to 2nd.
  • Yadiel Rivera out on a sacrifice fly to center fielder Henry Dunn. Thomas Mittelstaedt scores. Tyler Roberts to 3rd.
  • Derrick Shaw strikes out swinging.

Anyone know how hard Merklinger throws?

I was just about to ask the same thing. I looked up his draft report and found this:

Merklinger's fastball is well below-average.

So he may be one of those soft tossing curve ball specialists.

Final: @Burlington 10, Wisconsin 3

Hayenga snaps two streaks as Bees top Rattlers

Chris Mehring/Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

BURLINGTON, IA – Burlington Bees starting pitcher Keaton Hayenga ended a pair of streaks in a 10-3 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Thursday night at Community Field. One streak was Wisconsin’s three-game winning streak and the loss put a halt on the Timber Rattlers charge into playoff contention. The other streak was a personal one for Hayenga, who had lost 12 straight decision, before holding the Rattlers to three runs on six hits over six innings. Hilton Richardson provided four RBI for the Burlington offense.

Hunter Morris gave the Rattlers (54-73 overall, 28-31) a quick 1-0 lead. The Wisconsin left fielder launched a solo homer with two outs in the top of the first inning. That was the only point of the game that Wisconsin was in front of the Bees.

Whit Merrifield singled to start the bottom of the first inning for Burlington. Alex McClure was next and his two-run homer to left off Wisconsin starting pitcher Maverick Lasker put the Bees (42-83, 20-36) in front 2-1. Burlington would score in each of the first five innings to keep adding on to that lead.

Richardson chimed in with two-run single in the bottom of the second. In the third inning, the Bees scored three times. There were RBI singles by Jake Kuebler and Jose Bonilla. Deivy Batista grounded into a 4-6-3 double play with runners at the corners and no outs to plate the third run of the inning.

The deluge against Lasker continued in the fourth inning when he gave up a two-out RBI single to Carlo Testa. Lasker lasted four innings on Thursday night. He allowed eight runs on 11 hits, threw three wild pitches, and took the loss.

Hayenga had struggled to this point in the 2010 Midwest League season. He was 1-12 on the year. The last time that he had won a game was on May 19 when he tossed one inning of scoreless relief against Clinton. Since that night, he was 0-12 in 17 games. But, he was solid against the Rattlers.

Scooter Gennett tripled to start the fifth and scored on an infield grounder off the bat of Kentrail Davis. But, the Bees responded with two runs off reliever Andy Sauter in the bottom of the fifth. It was Richardson who did the damage again with another two-run single – this one with two outs – to put the Bees up 10-2.

Chris Dennis tripled to start the sixth inning and scored when he knocked the ball out of the mitt of Burlington catcher Jose Bonilla on a play at the plate after a fly ball to right off the bat of D’Vontrey Richardson. That was the last run off Hayenga and the last run in the game.

The bullpens took over from that point to keep the score at Burlington 10, Wisconsin 3.

The final game of Wisconsin’s road trip is Friday night. Efrain Nieves (3-4, 5.43) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. Matt Mitchell (1-7, 5.18) is set to start for the Bees. Game time is 6:30pm. Listen to game broadcast on AM1280, WNAM starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:10pm.

Wisconsin box score

Lasker walked one and didn't strike anyone out. The game was such that Rigoberto Almonte's two perfect innings of relief earned him player of the game honors. Great to see Gennett back in the lineup, obviously. D'Vo had a single and a triple and didn't strike out. Khris Davis was 0-4, and Kentrail Davis was 0-3 with a walk.

Final: @Mobile 3, Huntsville 2

Huntsville box score

Two pitching prospects acquitted themselves pretty well, but in between, Jim Henderson allowed two decisive runs for the loss. Amaury Rivas started and was effective, albeit unusually wild: 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 6 K, 4/3 GO/AO, 84 pitches, 43 strikes. Jeremy Jeffress entered in the 8th and lowered the boom, fanning all four batters he faced; 13 of his 20 pitches were strikes. Drew Anderson led the Stars with three hits and two doubles, and Anderson de la Rosa was 2-4 with a double as well. Brett Lawrie singled and walked in five trips, Caleb Gindl was 0-2 but walked twice, and Taylor Green was 0-3 but also drew a free pass.

Huntsville play-by-play

The Stars squandered an opportunity in the 2nd:

Huntsville Top of the 2nd
  • Caleb Gindl walks.
  • Anderson De La Rosa singles on a ground ball to shortstop Taylor Harbin. Caleb Gindl to 2nd.
  • Amaury
Rivas out on a sacrifice bunt, pitcher Ryan Cook to second baseman
Jacob Elmore. Caleb Gindl to 3rd. Anderson De La Rosa to 2nd.
  • Lee Haydel flies out to left fielder Ollie LintonJr. in foul territory.
  • Brett Lawrie called out on strikes.

Looks like Lawrie almost tied it in the 9th:

Huntsville Top of the 9th
  • Pitcher Change: Daniel Stange replaces Reid Mahon, batting 9th.
  • Offensive Substitution: Pinch hitter Anderson Machado replaces Jeremy Jeffress.
  • Anderson Machado singles on a line drive to right fielder Evan Frey.
  • Lee Haydel out on a sacrifice bunt, pitcher Daniel Stange to second baseman Jacob Elmore. Anderson Machado to 2nd.
  • Brett
Lawrie lines into double play, shortstop Taylor Harbin to second
baseman Jacob Elmore. Anderson Machado doubled off 2nd.

Final: Tampa 3, @Brevard County 2

'Tees let one slip away

Frank Longobardo/Brevard County Manatees

VIERA, Fla. - It might have been the most important game of the season for the Brevard County Manatees and it literally slipped away from them as the Tampa Yankees defeated the Manatees 3-2 in front of 1,950 on Thursday night at Space Coast Stadium.

With the Manatees up 2-0 after six innings, the Yankees tied the game on a two-run homer by Myron Leslie that was off of left fielder Brock Kjeldgaard's glove and went over the wall. One pitch earlier it looked as if Leslie did not check his swing to set up a 2-2 count with two outs, but the umpire ruled that he held up and he belted the home run on a 3-1 pitch.

Tampa would go on to score one more run in the eighth on a RBI single from Bradley Suttle which was ultimately the difference in the 3-2 decision.

The reigning FSL Pitcher of the Week, Brevard County's Dan Merklinger was the tough-luck loser as he went 7 2/3 innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits, while walking one. Merklinger tied his career high with 13 strikeouts. He has now struck out 25 hitters in his last 15 2/3 innings pitched.

Brevard County had one last chance in the ninth when Juan Sanchez singled with two outs. Josh Prince entered the game as a pinch runner and Peter Fatse ripped a liner to third, but it was snagged by Suttle at third to end the game.

The Manatees scored first in the third inning on a RBI single by Erik Komatsu that scored Matt Cline. Brevard County plated another run in the fifth on a RBI ground out by Cline.

Sergio Miranda was 3-for-4, while Sean Halton and Sanchez had two hits each.

The loss now puts Brevard County 5 ½ games back with nine games to play. The Manatees will host their final regular season series beginning on Friday night against the Clearwater Threshers.

The first 750 fans through the gates on Friday will receive a free Manatees hat, courtesy of Viera Hospital.

Brevard County box score

Merklinger! Wow, 13 K's again, and deserved a better fate.

Brevard County play-by-play

10 of Merk's strikeouts were swinging.

Tampa Top of the 6th

  • Raymond Kruml strikes out swinging, catcher Sean McCraw to first baseman Sean Halton.
  • Jose Pirela strikes out swinging.
  • Bradley Suttle strikes out swinging, catcher Sean McCraw to first baseman Sean Halton.

Tampa Top of the 7th

  • Melky Mesa strikes out swinging.
  • Trent Lockwood singles on a ground ball to second baseman Matt Cline.
  • Zoilo Almonte strikes out swinging.
  • Myron Leslie homers (5) on a fly ball to left field. Trent Lockwood scores.
  • Jose Gil lines out to center fielder Erik Komatsu.

Final: @Nashville 7, New Orleans 3

Sounds top Zephyrs, 7-3, win fourth straight

Nashville Sounds

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Ray Olmedo was a triple away from the cycle in the Nashville Sounds' 7-3 victory over the New Orleans Zephyrs on Taco Bell Throwback Thursday at Greer Stadium in the second game of a five-game set.

It was the seventh time in the last 14 games that Olmedo produced multiple hits, as the veteran left-fielder went 3-for-4 with a home run and a double while driving in and scoring three runs out of the leadoff spot.

Nashville (70-62) has now won four consecutive games and eight of its last 11 contests, temporarily moving to 4.5 games behind first place Iowa in the PCL American Northern Division.

The Sounds jumped on the board in the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead. After Adam Stern and Mat Gamel reached base, professional hitter Erick Almonte crushed a two-run double down the left field line to plate both runners as Gamel slid under Neil Wilson's the tag at home plate.

In the next inning, Olmedo ripped a two-out double to center, stole third base, and then came home on an Eric Farris infield groundout that made it 3-0.

New Orleans got to Sounds starter Chase Wright in the top of the sixth inning, as the Zephyrs tied the contest with three runs. After Mike Lamb walked, Wright surrendered three consecutive singles to bring home the first two scores, followed by a Bryan Petersen sacrifice fly to centerfield for the tying run.

The Sounds went back ahead in the next frame at 7-3, scoring four runs off New Orleans reliever Matt Perterson. Luis Cruz smoked a line drive to center to reach base and advanced to second on a Norris Hopper walk. As Stern beat out an infield single with two outs, Cruz quickly rounded third and slid under the tag to score the first run of the inning. In the next at-bat, Olmedo blasted a three-run homer over the right field wall, his fourth long ball of the season and second in consecutive games played.

In a no decision, Wright gave up three runs on six hits while fanning seven over 5 2/3 innings pitched. David Johnson (2-1) picked up the win after retiring one batter with three pitches for the second consecutive night, as Donovan Hand earned the victory last night on three pitches.

Chuck Lofgren added two shutout innings, while Carlos Villanueva picked up his first career Triple-A save with a shutout ninth frame.

In his third start for New Orleans this season, James Houser allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits with two walks over three innings. Jorge Sosa added two scoreless innings in relief. Petersen (3-2) was touched for four runs in one inning for the loss.

The Sounds and Zephyrs will continue their series at 7:05 pm CT on Friday at Greer Stadium in the third game of a five-game series. The first 2,000 adults through the turnstiles at Greer will receive a premium Sounds T-Shirt, courtesy of Vanderbilt Sports Medicine. Veteran right-hander Marty McLeary (6-8, 6.82) will start for Nashville against New Orleans righty Brian Lawrence (10-8, 4.83).

Nashville box score

Listen to Almonte's two-run double here. Congrats to Olmedo; second near-cycle in a week for the Sounds after Cruz almost did it a few days ago. Lofgren handed out five free passes in his two innings but somehow kept the Zephyrs off the board; Villanueva helped, stranding the two men Lofgren walked to begin the 9th. Brendan Katin was 1-3 with a walk. Keep taking ball four, big man.

For Lawrie, physically I'd say Dan Uggla... with the caveat that I've never seen either guy in person.

I think a lot of people will use the Uggla comparison since they're both stocky second baseman, but Lawrie is more athletic then Uggla. I like the comparison Frankie Piliere on AOL fanhouse used after the futures game he compared Lawrie with Magglio Ordonez.

Brewers score season-high 20 runs in win over CasperBy The Helena Independent Record

CASPER, Wyo. — John Dishon hit a grand slam, Helena had season highs in hits and runs and the Brewers cruised past the Casper Ghosts 20-8 Thursday at Mike Lansing Field for their fourth straight win.

Helena, in first place in the Pioneer League North Division’s second half, earned the series sweep and now heads to Idaho Falls for its final four games against Southern Division teams.

The Brewers (34-28 overall, 14-9 second half) had 28 hits in the contest, and every player in the Helena lineup had at least one. Most had three or more hits, as Greg Hopkins and Dishon each went 3 for 6, Mike Walker was 4 for 5 with a home run, Brent Dean was 3 for 4 and Brandon Sizemore and Carlos George each went 4 for 6.

The Brewers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back, roughing up Casper starter Alving Mejias (5-5). Mejias gave up three hits in the first and walked two, giving up eight hits and nine earned runs in all over 1 2/3 innings.

Tyler Cravy, on the other hand, couldn’t have been much better for the Brewers. Cravy allowed five hits through five innings while striking out six and picking up his sixth win of the season. Jimmy Nelson, the Brewers’ second-round pick out of the University of Alabama, earned his third save of the year.

George’s two-run single in the top of the eighth made it 20-7, matching Helena’s largest lead of the game.

Casper (28-35, 11-13) made it 20-8 in the ninth on Nelson’s error, the Brewers’ third miscue of the game.

The Ghosts were led by Will Swanner, who was 2 for 3 with a homer.

Helena’s Cody Hawn left the game after scoring in the second inning with an undetermined injury. He walked off the field under his power.

Helena remains just a game ahead of first-half division winner Great Falls, after the Voyagers topped Orem in extras.

Helena 20, Casper 8By the Casper Star-Tribune staff

GHOSTS AT THE PLATE: Offensively, Casper fared well. William Swanner, Ryan Casteel and Robert De La Cruz each had two hits. Michael Ramirez also chipped in two hits. … Swanner hit his third home run of the season in just his seventh game. … Rafael Ortega had a double and two walks.

BREWERS AT THE PLATE: What a night for Helena. The team had 28 hits overall, including at least two hits by every starter other than Franklin Romero. … Helena had nine extra-base hits overall. … The Brewers tagged every Ghosts pitcher other than Trevor Gibson with at least one run, including nine to Alving Mejias and seven to Christian Bergman.

GHOSTS ON THE MOUND: Rough night to be a Ghosts pitcher. The team allowed a season-high 20 runs, including seven in the second inning. … The team allowed 28 hits and walked another four batters.

BREWERS ON THE MOUND: It was much better to be a Brewers pitcher. … Tyler Cravy earned the win, going five innings and allowing just four earned runs.

Helena Box Score

Hopefully Cody Hawn's injury, whatever it may be, isn't a major issue -- Hawn doubled and singled in his two trips before leaving; both Mike Walker and John Dishon finished a triple shy of a cycle; Walker's game was just ridiculous -- home run, two doubles, single, two walks, five RBI...

The biggest outburst was a seven-run 2nd inning --
