NBA draft/Bucks-Yi discussion

As much as the pick of Yi isn't exciting to me, the Bucks pretty much had to take him. He was the best player available, and if he doesn't want to play, they have his rights and can get something in return. I guess that works. I've been quite impressed with Portland's draft night. Not only Oden, but building quite the good young team!

Saw that same thing from Andy Katz. He made it sound like the Bucks representatives were basically begging Yi and his crew to come to Milwaukee tomorrow for media day. I know he was probably the best player on the board, and that it was a gutsy pick, but I have to disagree with it, simply because you are drafting someone you KNOW doesn't want to be there. He refused work outs, he wouldn't come to Milwaukee, and he didn't want the Bucks to watch him at draft camp. I don't understand why you would want to bring someone in who doesn't want to be here unless you are sure you have somewhere to trade him.

I hate it when draftees refuse to play for teams. Baseball is totally different though...but NFL, NBA drafts, come on. You should feel fortunate that you are one of the lucky ones chosen in the draft. Play for the team that you end up on at the end of the night, play your rookie contract, then if you are really that great, test the free agent market. These guys have proven nothing in the pros, yet they think they are the best thing since sliced bread.

This is why the nba and nfl is sickning now. 5-10 years ago no one cared what team they were on, no one really cared how much money they made, they were just glad that they were in the pros and were among the top athletes in the game. Would anyone do Yi for Devin Harris now?

Looks like the Bucks won the bluffing game. Although, I do wonder how much of it had to do with Yi and how much how to do with his agent/camp. I'm sure Yi would have liked to have played in a bigger City, but it seems like he just wants to play in the NBA and his camp was making a bigger issue about where. At least I hope that how it ends up turning out.

Yi claims he's happy to be a Buck

By Emmett Prosser

Yi Jianlian claims he will not be another Gary Sheffield or Javon Walker.

Though Yi's camp refused to let the Bucks watch Yi workout last week, Yi said in an interview Thursday night that he planned to play for the Bucks this season.

"I'm not really familiar with the city, but I'm happy to play with the team and I'm happy to play in the NBA," Yi said.

"I don't know much about the team...in China we didn't see a lot of games. I've never been therre, it's kind of a new city for me."

What else can Yi say? He has two options. He can play on a front line with Andrew Bogut and Charlie Villanueva next season, or he can go back and play in China.

While I'm sure the Guangdong Tigers would love to have him back, I'm guessing that the Bucks will be able to offer a slightly larger signing bonus. He'll be a Buck and he'll like it."

Yi is happy to be a Buck

I really grow sick of the news that ESPN tries to create. They have spent so much of the night talking and writing about how Yi does not want to be a Buck, but when it boiled down to it, that simply is not true. I think he will sign without any problems and give the Bucks an exciting front line with Andrew Bogut. I would have preferred Conley or Horford, but cannot argue with this pick. He was the best available and has the potential to be a very nice player in a few years.

If Yi doesn't want to play here, the Bucks bargaining power is seriously discounted.

Yi has said he is going to play in the NBA this year, so the Bucks have all the bargaining power in the world. He is the Bucks property, and the NBA isn't like the NFL or MLB. Once you are drafted by a team, you are that teams property till they renounce your rights. So Yi will be playing for the Bucks next year unless they get an offer that knocks their socks off. It doesn't matter if he doesn't want to play here. He'll have to suck it up, or go back to China to play.

Boo, I wanted Corey Brewer or Conley jr for reasons others have stated previously.

So who else was surprised to see Landry go so early?

Yi was the right pick if they want to trade, as he had the most potential of any player available there. Hopefully he changes his mind, or the Bucks can swing a trade. If he doesn't sign, then let him sit out and not get paid. Makes him look like the bad guy and not the Bucks. I wish the Bucks would have traded down though.

As far as the others, I believe that you don't draft a small forward with a top 10 pick. Small forwards are a dime a dozen.

In a way this will really help the Bucks of Yi plays, look at the international exposure, especially in China, the Bucks have created for themselves. Someone outside of Wisconsin will actually own a Bucks jersey.

now we get to root for Yi and Yo!

I didn't think the Bucks would pick him after he refused to work out with them, but apparently Harris knew that Yi would end up accepting where he landed.

I wanted Conley, and once he was gone I was rooting for Brewer, but I can see how Yi ended up being the pick.

Either way I think we just increased our fan base a bit http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
