Brewers Collectibles

bucksbeat

I just want to apologize in advance if there has been a topic like this recently, I remember an old "What's it Worth" thread, but nothing other than that. I want to see fellow fans little collectibles. What I mean is, I'm sure some of you have awesome, mind blowing collections. What I want to see is just little things that you have found that you think are cool. We've all seen autographs and all that, now let's see some of the little-known collectibles of 40 years of Milwaukee Baseball.

Found this little guy on Ebay:

A Piece of the Park: Milwaukee County Stadium - Home of the Milwaukee Brewers - American League Champions, 1982

Found this guy at a rummage sale for .50 ..

Any idea where I can get it re-shaped and cleaned? Not really a cowboy hat expert but I had to pick it up.. May be part of my future game attire. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Guess I made an unpopular thread http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif

Anyway I found the Milwaukee Brewers Turning 20 -- The Story of the 1989 Milwaukee Brewers VHS at a rummage today. Too bad I no longer own a VCR..

You might have been thinking of the "what is it worth" collectible thread in the Trading Post.

My mother likes to cruise rummage sales and is always on the lookout for Brewers stuff for me. However, her hauls have been less the last few years. My theory is that the Brewers' recent uptick in popularity translates into more people hanging on to their memorabilia - in the south central counties, at least.

I can't help you with where to have a hat spiffed up. But that piece of the park is pretty neat.

Yeah I've seen the "What is it Worth" thread. Just didn't feel it met the parameters of my neat but potentially valueless items. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

I have a full size image of the Piece of the Park item.. Don't want to flood the thread with huge pictures so here is a link...

but what is it? Infield dirt? Sod from the field? A piece of wood? I can't tell.
I'd bet it is infield dirt or warning track "material".

Bet it tastes great as a seasoning on steaks....

On the certificate of authenticity it says it's just official playing field from the 1982 American League Champion Milwaukee Brewers. Mine just looks like dirt and dried up grass.

This is the item that stands out to me the most. My dad found this in a box while cleaning out my grandfathers basement. He passed away in 2009 right before opening day. He had never missed a Milwaukee Opening Day starting with the Braves. This stub is from game 5 of the Braves' 57 World Series, and on the scorecard it's noted that it was the first time my grandpa ever kept score at a game.

I've got a small piece in my collection that I think is pretty cool. It's a old fashioned straight edge razor with a piece of paper taped to the handle that reads "Uncles razor, a pitcher for the 1911 Milw Brewers". It's got a name on the opposite side, but I've not been able to find a roster from the 1911 club.

Sorry, no picture at the moment.

Like Bikeage77, I have some memorabilia from my grandfather. He was a fan of Milwaukee baseball (Braves and Brewers) and after he died in 1997 my aunt kindly saved some of the baseball things for me. (I have a sneaking feeling that she might have kept more valuable items for herself, but that's off-topic.) I don't have photos (yet), but I have a wooden bat pencil from the Milwaukee Braves era which is pretty neat.

What I actually like best, though, is a handful of his ticket stubs from some of those home games the White Sox played at County Stadium in the late 1960s. I was floored to see that he sat in Lower Grandstand 3, which in the end years of County Stadium was also our season ticket section. Circle of life. We brought one of the stubs to the last game at County and had our picture taken at the seat - like I wasn't emotional enough that day, but I'm still glad we did it.

Since this is becoming kind of a "favorite collectibles" thread, I'll add that one of my favorite Brewers collectibles is my Rob Deer growth chart, which I got in 1987. It was one of those 16-and-under giveaways but at the time, everyone thought I looked "young" (I was 21) and the person handing out the posters didn't even blink when she gave me one. I am pretty sure I am the only Barnard Hall resident in the history of UW-Madison to sport a Rob Deer growth chart on a dorm room wall. This is a safe bet because Barnard was a women-only dorm until just recently.
