The Brewers have at least saved money. Bradley shouldn't even get slot.

I would've liked to have seen Cron at 15. We already got one college pitcher, I didn't think we needed another if it wasn't going to be Gray.

Me: Comment From jjkoestler

Brewers fan here.... Should I be excited right now? These seem like two safe picks. Is there a lot of upside with either of these guys?

David Rawnsley:

You should be thrilled! Quality ML starters are very hard to find, the Brewers just traded their entire farm system to acquire two of them. Then they go out and get 2 in the draft.

I'm sorry but Bruce must go. This guy is gonna kill the organization. I realize they got killed three picks in a row, but it's still no excuse for picking these guys. Really, coupled with the Arnett fiasco, this is bringing back the bad old days--easy signs with little hope of impact. Did Bruce learn nothing from Z. Some tool has to be A or A+. B/B- players in the first round. Prince you're lucky. I wish someone would pay me to leave the Brewers.

Sorry all. Venting.

X, I'm really curious where you're getting this. Every mock I can recall seeing had Jed Bradley gone before 15. He has a decent 4-pitch mix by MLB standards -- at 21, at the outset of his career. How does a player like that not get slot, profile not to make the majors, top out as a #4 . . . ? You guys are really smart, so I'm not asking this rhetorically, but where's the bad dirt on Bradley coming from?

Agree with this. These guys might have a lot of average tools (nothing below-average) but that's not what you're looking for in the first round. I want someone who's above-average/great at something, not just average all around.

I don't really get the crazy hate. I've read a lot from draft guys (Jim Bowden, Kevin Goldstein, Jim Callis, along with some of the Fangraphs writers). Here are some thoughts on the picks.

Jeff Sackmann: Jungmann would've been my pick for the Brewers as well. Absolute groundball machine. Not far from the big leagues.

Kevin Goldstein: Jungmann might not be the sexiest guy on a scouting level, but he's big, has solid to plus stuff across the board and is NEVER bad. ERA under one for much of the year.

Jim Bowden: Jungmann is 92-94 mph 6-6 225....delivery getting better which is resulting with better slider...not always consistent release point....3rd of rotation type starter...inning eater (I've read 2-3 starter)

Marc Hulet: Brewers: Taylor Jungmann, RHP (U Texas): Linked heavily to the New York Mets, Jungmann would be a steal if he gets to the club. He has an enviable pitcher's frame, as well as the potential for three plus pitches: 92-96 mph fastball, curveball and changeup. He also has solid control and command for his age.

Jim Callis said on Twitter about Bradley: Forgot all about Jed Bradley for a moment! Silly me. #Brewers get a nice LHP who might have gone top five a month ago. #mlbdraft

Bowden thought it was a steal, Goldstein wasn't too thrilled.

Marc Hulet: Brewers: Jed Bradley, LHP (Georgia Tech): Mostly linked to teams like the Indians and Blue Jays - clubs that traditionally favor college picks in the first round - Bradley is a solid overall pitcher. His repertoire is not overpowering, but he has the ceiling of a No. 2 or 3 starter. He throws an 88-93 mph fastball, slider, curveball, and changeup. He has slightly-above-average control and could move swiftly through a minor league system. Brewers go with arms that could get to the Majors quickly

Overall I like what I've read from the draft guys around the internet. I don't have insider so I can't see what Keith Law is saying.

Probably something pretentious. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
Law was pretty down-the-middle on these two picks. He described Jungmann as "being able to pitch behing Greinke and Gallardo" in the rotation with "#2 upside". Also said in Bradley's writeup that the Brewers "Now have 2 legit rotation candidates out of this draft".

Jed Bradley, LHP, Georgia TechThis is a protected pick but the Brewers get another college arm that could hit the big leagues inside of three years. He's a tall southpaw that has touched 97 mph but generally sits 91-94. His breaking ball needs work and his changeup often goes unused, which suggests he could land in the bullpen. He does throw strikes and he has an uncanny ability to avoid the sweet spot of the bat, but his inconsistencies kept him out of the top 10. The Brewers now have two legit rotation candidates out of this draft.

Taylor Jungmann, RHP, TexasChurchill: Jungmann has good stuff, sitting 91-95 mph with the fastball and offering two breaking balls of which the slider is the better pitch. He has some delivery concerns -- he throws across his body -- but he's been as consistent as any arm in the country this season and may not need much time in the minors to help the Brewers, and their farm system lacks just about everything. He's big and physical, and could pitch behind Yovani Gallardo and Zack Greinke with No. 2 upside.

Bradley has a career ERA over 4 1/2. I'm not sure why some think his stuff is so good. If he has decent stuff why doesn't he use it to get people out? Top pitchers dominate college baseball, he hasn't.

Phillies take Larry Greene in Supp round. I assume he would've been in consideration for Brewers' 2nd round pick. I didn't love him, so I'm not disappointed.

Agreed. Who do you like for round 2? Trevor Story? Is Kyle Winkler still available? Ryan Wright?

Story just picked. Haeger, Panik and Martin gone too. Doesn't look good for adding a SS. Just Connor Barron and Jace Peterson left.
