texas, a wealth of young pitching

Wow, don't know if we have any assets to meet their needs, but if we did- talk about an abundant resource of starting pitching. any one of these guys would be at least a 3 on our team:

Tommy Hunter
Derek Holland
Neftali Feliz
Matt Harrison
Scott Feldman
CJ Wilson
Colby Lewis
Brandon McCarthy

I really hope that Fielder and a couple prospects that we don't need next year is enough to get 2 of these guys. I'm really going to be upset if we go with 4 of the 5 guys we have now. We definitely need at LEAST 2 new guys in the rotation to go with Wolf and Gallardo. 3 would be even better.

My guess is if you want either Hunter or Holland, Texas may insist you also take Feldman and the $11 million he's owed over the next two seasons. Feldman's numbers this year are pretty ugly. Maybe a Lewis/Harrison combo might make more sense.

McCarthy is such an injury risk that he could be non-tendered.

the crazy thing about Texas' rotation is you also got Harden and Lee- they have like 10 above average starting pitchers on their 40 man. + Tanner scheppers in AAA. crazy.

Except Harden is worse than Wolf but otherwise yeah you are right.

I would love to send them Fielder while also taking back a bad contract in return (or paying part of Fielders 2011 salary) to sort of buy a couple of prospects from them in addition to setting them up for a very nice run next year. Seems like a win for everyone involved.

I'm not sure how realistic a deal with TEX is or isn't, but imagine the middle of their lineup --

Kinsler

Hamilton

Fielder

Cruz

Yikes. Even scarier if they keep Vlad in the mix & he produces like he has this season.

Agreed. I think the Rays have even more good pitching as they've got probably close to 8-9 guys who are either very early in their service time or still in the minors and playing very well.

But yes, this is so much better than spending 10 million on a Wolf, or even 6.5 on a guy like Davis. Take back a bad contract, and who knows, a guy like Feldman could bounce back and have some modicum of success, and you get that prospect to go with him.
