Link Report for Fri. 7/30 -- Scarpetta leads BC to 7th straight win; Maryvale romps again

I just added video of Cody Scarpetta pitching in last night's Manatees game against St. Lucie. Video of offense highlights will be online later today.

Go to the home page at www.spacecoastbaseball.com and look under VIDEOS in the left column.

By the way, the pitching coach for the St. Lucie Mets is 73-year old Phil Regan, "The Vulture."

Great video.
Anyone know if Cody did anything different in June. His pre-All Star break versus post-ASB splits are amazing.
He and Merklinger have had a tremendous July. One or the other should be pitcher of the month.

Thanks, Stephen!

This is the video of Scarpetta you get to see, minus most of the between-pitch delays:

St. Lucie Top 3rd

  • Hector Pellot singles on a line drive to right fielder Peter Fatse.
  • Pedro Zapata grounds into a force out, shortstop Josh Prince to second baseman Matt Cline. Hector Pellot out at 2nd. Pedro Zapata to 1st.
  • Michael Fisher strikes out swinging.
  • With Jordany Valdespin batting, Pedro Zapata steals (2) 2nd base.
  • Jordany Valdespin strikes out swinging.

I'm trying to think who has a "posterior" similar to Cody. It's certainly significant and his upper leg strength undoubtedly helps him generate his power. As my wife likes to say, "all a bum is, is the top of two legs".

Florida Today had an article a few days ago about a change in his mechanics. The link is:

"It feels pretty good," Scarpetta said of his streak, attributing it to a mechanical adjustment to his lower body.

"Before my leg, my knee would kind of fly open, like a door flying open. We've been trying to stay closed, keeping that knee closed, going down straight down to the ground."

Oh, after the offense highlights video, I'll be posting a walking tour of the Space Coast Stadium field. The idea came up in Thursday night's webcast. I'm always talking about certain features, so I got the bright idea to go out and film them. It'll be on line before Tuesday night's webcast for sure, probably sooner.

SpaceCoastBaseball -- thanks. I thought I read something about Scarpetta, but could not find it, so glad you referenced it for me. Any insights into Merklinger? Or is he just one of the lefties where the light went on?

His build, style, and stuff remind me alot of Chad Billingsly. I hope I can eventually add production to that list, and that looking more possible with each start.

I've posted the game highlights from July 30, including some other stuff to give you a flavor of a night at the ballpark.

I'm also posting a video walking tour of the playing field, so you can see it from the players' perspective.

The links as always are on the SpaceCoastBaseball.com home page.

And a shameless reminder that SpaceCoastBaseball.com is financed out of my pocket, which is not very deep these days since I'm unemployed. The web site has no ads, so I rely on our visitors to help defray costs with a one-time donation or $5/month voluntary contribution. Click here to learn how you can help:

That's a really good call.

Remember when the Brewers signed undrafted catcher Steve Felix earlier this month? He played on 7/12, and then disappeared until Friday, when he took over for Tyler Roberts and doubled in his only at-bat. The Arizona League is so mysterious.
