From the game thread last night:

Of course this pretty much means Cain has no shot of starting tomorrow and will more than likely be sent down when Gallardo comes off the DL. Damn.

Lefty starting tomorrow. Don't think Edmonds starts. Gomez probably will though. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif

Sigh. It's getting to the point where we can call Macha's stupid moves a day before they happen.

I would have sent him. I don't have a problem trying to get 1 run there with Gomez coming up. Gomez hasn't exactly been swinging a hot bat and I would try to play for 1 run early. Why not? The chances of a big inning there are pretty unlikely. If Escobar was up next I would have held Weeks, as he's been hitting the ball pretty decent. All of Gomez's hits lately have been the infield kind. It's easier for me to say all of this because it worked out and Weeks scored anyway.

That inning is why the Brewers ar not a playoff team this year. Not that particular inning, but all the innings like them that had most of us seeing how it would end before it actually did. Every team fails, but it just seesm like the rate of failure in that specific situation is way too high, starting with yet another useless AB by your best hitter and ending with an awful AB by a guy who probably shouldn't be playing.

Check out Cabrera's first AB vs Strasburg. I'm sure they will show it on Sportscenter or Baseball Tonight as Strasburg made him look like a little leaguer.

There goes that lead. I don't like the "feel" of this game. We had to scratch that run out in the first after the first two are in scoring position. And now the Pirates are hitting Wolf decent early, not to mention Wolf hasn't really been getting his pitches down.

I'm late, but hooray Epic Beard!

It is pretty scary that Wolf's FIP is that terrible.

Duke is 2 for 24 this year and Russell used him as a pinch hitter last night. Can anyone explain that logic to me? Even Macha wouldn't do something that mind boggling. And if he did, we would have been all over him.

The Pirates were up at the time and had a limited bench due to the fact McCutchen is unable to field or hit due to a shoulder injury. There were two outs with no men on base, so the Pirates figured why burn a position player (especially one who likely won't hit one out) when they can just throw a pitcher out there who might get a hit (Duke) instead of one who in all likelihood will not (Carrasco). It wasn't as crazy as it sounds. Duke for his career is a .178 hitter, so it's not like he's Ben Sheets up there.

I understand your points Blingster but I will counter with Duke has just one start before tonights game because of an elbow injury so they were taking a chance that he could hurt himself. I know it was an elbow but those who were pitchers can tell you that a touchy elbow hates to swing the bat.

So the Brewers aren't the only team to try to get by with fewer than 25 guys rather than put an injured-to-the-point-of-unavailability player on the DL.

Getting back to the game...good god, Randy, get an out.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.
