Heckathorn...ouch

1.2 innings 5 hits 6 ER 0 K's 2 BB

On the bright side he only gave up one extra base hit.

Man, Khris Davis is on a tear - 3 for 3 with a double and homer so far today.

Only 2 of Heckathorn's 7 Runs were earned...One of the worse defefensive games of the season, just horrendous

Gah. You're right. I mis read the box score. My bad, Kyle!

Khris Davis is filling the Matt Laporta sized hole in my heart.

Final: Wisconsin 15, Burlington 12

Rattlers rally to stun Bees

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

GRAND

CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers trailed the Burlington Bees 12-7

heading into the bottom of the seventh inning on Monday afternoon at Time Warner

Cable Field. A bout of wildness and

a pair of big hits by Michael Marseco and Austin Stockfisch brought Wisconsin

back to even and the Rattlers would go on to defeat Burlington 15-12.

The victory gave the Rattlers a three-game series sweep of their Western

Division rivals.

Burlington

(30-56 overall, 8-9 second half) struck first.

A leadoff double by Deivy Batista was followed by an error on a throw to

first after a grounder by JD Alfaro. The

error was the first of six committed by the Rattlers.

The

first error did not get Wisconsin (35-51, 9-9) down too much as they rallied for

the first time with three runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Khris Davis doubled in the first run.

Hunter Morris followed with an RBI triple.

Morris scored on a wild pitch for a 3-1 lead.

But,

the Bees scored six times in the second inning and knocked Wisconsin starting

pitcher Kyle Heckathorn out of the game. An

error on a wild pickoff throw by Heckathorn allowed the first run of the inning

to score. An error on a grounder to

second let the tying run to score. Gerard

Hall's sacrifice fly gave the Bees a 4-3 lead.

Joey Lewis had an RBI grounder later in the frame.

Rene Oriental singled in the final two runs of the inning and the Bees

were up 7-3.

In

the middle part of the game, the Rattlers would edge closer only to have

Burlington pull away again. Wisconsin

scored twice in the third on an RBI single by Morris and an RBI grounder by

Cutter Dykstra to make the score 7-5. Then,

the Bees scored twice in the top of the fourth on RBI singles by Oriental and

Jose Bonilla.

Khris

Davis continued his assault on Burlington pitching in the bottom of the fifth

inning. He lined a solo homer to

left for his fifteenth dinger of the year. Davis

has hit seven of those home runs against the Bees.

D'Vontrey

Richardson got Wisconsin to within 9-7 with an RBI double in the bottom of the

sixth.

The

Bees pulled away again in the top of the seventh inning thanks to some wildness

by Wisconsin reliever Adrian Rosario. The

right-hander, who was making his Midwest League debut, threw wildly on another

pickoff throw to first to let a runner score from third.

He would walk the next two batters to load the bases. Lewis drew a third

consecutive walk to force in a run. Matt

Costello took over for Rosario and gave up a sacrifice fly to Oriental that put

Burlington up 12-7.

The

wildness of Rosario was nothing compared to Burlington reliever Rodolfo

Encarnacion. The Bees hurler came

out of the bullpen and walked the first four Rattlers he faced in the bottom of

the seventh inning. Dykstra drew the

final walk from Encarnacion to force in a run to cut Burlington's lead to

12-8. Sam Runion entered the game

for the Bees at this point.

Marseco

greeted Runion with a double to the gap in left-center to drive in a pair of

runs. Stockfisch hit the next pitch

through a drawn in infield to plate a pair of runs to tie the game 12-12.

Costello

worked a 1-2-3 top of the eighth and the Rattler hitters went back to work in

the bottom of the eighth against Runion. Kentrail

Davis and Khris Davis both singled. One

out later, Dykstra walked again to load the bases for Marseco.

Runion

got ahead of Marseco 0-2. Then, he

tried to work inside on the left-hand hitting shortstop.

The pitch came too far in and hit Marseco to force in the go-ahead run.

Stockfisch line the next pitch into the outfield to drive in two more

runs and give Wisconsin a 15-12 lead.

Closer

Jon Pokorny pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to end the game and get his seventh

save of the season.

The

Rattlers are off on Tuesday. They

return to action on Wednesday night against the Lansing Lugnuts at Time Warner

Cable Field. Game time is 7:05pm.

If you can't make it to the game, you may tune in for the broadcast on

AM1280, WNAM starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:45pm.

Wisconsin Boxscore

I don't have much to add to what others and Chris posted, but I do need to correct Chris, the HR today was actually Khris Davis' 16th HR of the season, not his 15th. Promote the young man already. Only Dykstra, Gennett, and Miller went hitless in this contest, everyone else had at least 2 hits. Adrian Rosario with a debut to forget, and Santo Manzanillo continues to be frustrating.

Wisconsin Recap

I could have posted most of the play by play, lots of reading if your interested.

edit. Fixed the score, my goodness

No you didn't; he was originally charged with six, but it was later revised to two.

Now its been re-revised down to 1 ER.

A pretty awesome offensive performance, lots of time to work on the defense.

Reggie Keen did indeed break his hand in a couple of spots after being hit in the hand by that pitch in the 9th inning last night. Given how little time is left in the season I'd be shocked if he saw action again this season.

Final: DSL Athletics 8, @DSL Brewers 7

DSL Brewers box score

18-year-old Jeffrey Saba, last seen tossing seven shutout innings on the 5th, got hit around today, allowing five runs in six innings. Ronny Puello and my man Carlos Pena both homered for the Brewers; that's the first pro homer for Pena. Hitaniel Arias was 1-3 with two walks. He's walking a lot this year but not really doing much else. Jose Pena, 0-3 today with two strikeouts, is the same story, though it's a lot more tolerable given that Pena's just 17.

DSL Brewers play-by-play

Nothing like an attempted steal of home in the first inning to wake everyone up:

DSL Athletics Top 1st

  • Luis
    Osorio walks.
  • With Wilfredo Solano batting, Luis Osorio
    steals (13) 2nd base.
  • Wilfredo Solano grounds out, second
baseman Yonki Hernandez to first baseman Hitaniel Arias. Luis Osorio
    to 3rd.
  • With Reynaldo Mateo batting, Luis Osorio caught
    stealing home.
  • Reynaldo Mateo strikes out swinging.

Final: Brevard County 11, @Tampa 8 (10 innings)

Brevard County box score

The Manatees held a 7-2 lead in the 3rd and an 8-4 lead in the 4th but slowly let the Yankees back in the game before rallying to plate three in the top of the 10th to win it. Corey Frerichs again got the win after pitching two scoreless innings. Darren Byrd did indeed start and did not pitch well, surrendering six runs in 3.2 innings of work. Lots of pretty offensive lines in this one (not as pretty as in the Rattlers' box score, but hey, it's Brevard County). Erik Komatsu and Sean Halton were both 3-5 with walks, with one of Halton's hits being a double. Shawn Zarraga was 2-4 with his

second homer of the year, plus a sac fly, while Matt Cline, Brock Kjeldgaard, and Scott Krieger all had two hits in six trips.

Brevard County play-by-play

The winning rally came off former big leaguer John Van Benschoten, the 8th overall draft pick in 2001, who was in MLB as recently as 2008:

Brevard County Top 10th

  • Pitcher Change: John Van
    Benschoten replaces Craig Heyer.
  • Matt Cline strikes out
    swinging.
  • Erik Komatsu singles on a fly ball to center fielder
    Raymond Kruml.
  • Sean Halton doubles (5) on a fly ball to left
fielder Ramon Flores. Erik Komatsu scores.
  • Sergio Miranda
grounds out, shortstop Walter Ibarra to first baseman Trent Lockwood.
    Sean Halton to 3rd.
  • Brock Kjeldgaard singles on a fly ball to
right fielder Zoilo Almonte. Sean Halton scores.
  • With
Scott Krieger batting, Brock Kjeldgaard steals (3) 2nd base.
  • Scott
Krieger singles on a ground ball to second baseman Jose Pirela.
Brock Kjeldgaard scores. Fielding error by second baseman Jose Pirela.
Scott Krieger out at 2nd on the throw, second baseman Jose Pirela to
catcher Jose Gil to shortstop Walter Ibarra.

Burgos seemed to figure out whatever it was that needed figuring out. His last four outings (including tonight):

Final: Billings 8, Helena 4

Helena Boxscore

Last I looked Hiram Burgos was leading the league in Ks, the 10 Ks he put on the board tonight surely helped him hold if not pad his lead. Burgos went 7 incredibly strong innings allowing just 3 hits and 2 walks against those 10 strike outs. After he was replaced it all fell apart from there... Alex Jones only got through .1 IP allowing 4 runs, replaced by Eric Marzec who went .1 IP and gave 3 runs, who was replaced by Rob Currie who couldn't stop the bleeding going the final .1 IP allowing 1 run of his own and all of the inherited runners to score. All 3 outs in the disastrous 8th inning were record via strike out giving H-Crew pitching a total of 13 for the game, the first 7 runs of the 8th inning were all unearned.

Offensively Cody Hawn was a stud once again going 3-5 with a 2B, Brandon Sizemore went 3-4, Brent Dean seems to be finding his swing as he was 3-4 with 2Bs. Mike Walker hit a HR in his 4 plate appearances and Carlos George was 1-5 with a 2B. Connor Lind and Brandon Sizemore committed the errors in the 8th.

Helena Recap

Helena was up 4-0 to the 8th... the play by play speaks for itself.
